190E Timing chain installation
Hi All,
My single row timing chain is rattling like crazy..it always has but now seems louder. My question is....can the rails and tensioner be replaced without pulling the head? Has anyone done just the chain? The car is a 1987 2.3 with 90k miles.. TIA Charles 1987 190E 1983 300D |

It can be done without removal of the head. You should replace the chain and the tensioner.
I would have the lower rails checked as well because they break. I have seen a couple of blown engines because of the lower rails. You have to use a boroscope to see them.
