Question Help installing clear turn signals

I just received a set of Hella clear turn signals from Puma Accessories. The quality is great and came with a set uf orange dual filament bulbs as well as the single filament ones in the new units.
The new bulb holder however, only has 2 metal pins and a plastic pin to connect to the car's wiring(the old units have 3 metal pins and a plastic pin). The new extra set of bulbs(dual filament) will not fit into the bulb holders on the new units, but will fit my old bulb holders.I assume that I have to use the old bulb holder, stick in the new orange dual filament bulbs, and screw the old bulb holders into the new units. The problem is that the bulb holders are designed differently.I believe the Diameter is the same but the old bulb holder has 2 tabs on the side(at 180deg.) to fit into the opening of the units and the new units have 3 at 60deg. apart. Should I just file off one of the tabs on the old bulb holder or file a slot at 180 deg. to an existing one on the new units?
Has anyone else had to do this to install their clear turn signals or am I missing something?Maybe the Hella units are different. The guy at Puma was not very helpful"We don't install. You might need to do some trimming".Yeah. Thanks. I thought they were plug-and -play.

CLEAR TURN SIGNALS

Exactly! I had to file down the clear holders to accomodate the three pin bulb holder also. Used orange two tip bulbs. Works like a charm

John,
I remembered what I did. My e-mail will be of no help. I remember I switched out the white mounting prongs the bulbs are in. All you do in gently push down and turn. You will be able to swap the 2 pin and the 3 pin so you'll be able to match them up without a problem.

Hope this will take care of it brother.
see ya,

Mike McKinney

You have two options, one is to modify the two existing holder to fit into the new housing, the other is to convert to euro style indicators by fitting the new holder to your wiring. I would trim the existing holder if possible to retain the stock indicator function.

You mean trim off one of the 2 tabs(they are at 180 deg. apart)on the sides of the old holder so that it can fit into 1 of the 3 openings in the new units? Is one tab enough to keep them in?Will they fit in well.? I see the old holders screw in differently, but they do have a rubber gasket that will hopefully help seal them.Am I better off filing a new opening in the new unit to accept the 2 tabs on the old bulbholder?

Can the holder be taken apart? If so you might be able to get the bulb holder out of the holder and switch them around. If not its back to modifying the original. Rather than cutting the lens housing I would look at using some hotglue or similar to tack it in place.

Matt.
