140 wiper blade

Hello I need to replace the wiper blades on my 140. I know that on the 126 I needed to get the OEM ones because only those fit. Is this true of my 140 also? Or can I just get them from a local parts store?

I don't think the local part store will carry these extra long blades. The last pair I pay was about $20+ at a local third party Mercedes part store (not dealer).

MB dealers should have w/s wiper inserts at a good price for your car! The part numbers are 140-824-03-27-01(left) & 140-824-01-27-01 (rt), list should be $7 for the left side & $4.50 for the rt side.

Beware of what kind of wiper insert you get for the 140. I have used both the one that is ready to just slip on (junk) and the other one that uses the little metal rods in your old blades. The latter is the superior blade. Fastline has them. Will last 3 times longer than the other.

So maybe someone can clarify this now: Fastlane carries the left and right but they also have a set. Now I don't know what this set has in it. Is it the right and left or two two of the right and left? I'm confused because it's $30 but buying two left and right ones separately are cheaper.

Might you be comparing blades and inserts?

Double checked, it's the inserts. I'll call them.

Question

I should have known. I thought replacing the wiper blades on my 99 S420 would be so easy, I wouldn't even have to come here to look for advice first. I figured, just call the local dealer, make sure they have the ones for my model in stock, swing by, pick em up and slap em in. I figured 5 minutes max for the install. WRONG !!!

Ok, I know I kinda suck, but it's been 30 minutes now. First of all I got the kind without the metal rods. Now I was about to say I got those because that's what the dealer reccommended. Looking back that statement would not be accurate. When I called I just asked "Do you have replacement blades for a 99 S420?" They said "Yes". I got exactly what I asked for.

Well the passenger side went in pretty hassle free. The blade was relativley accessable. I could easily side the old out from the heel and then reinstall the new ones heel end first. The end cap was already on one end so I slid it in, put the end cap on the outside end, boom. 2.5 minutes. Right on schedule. Ok, one down and one to go.

Driver side? ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! OMG !!!! First of all, should the hood be open or closed. Either way I have very little access. The old one had the rods so there was no way I could slide it out towards the tip. The 'expanded' hood (usually a good thing ) end at the heel won't let you just pull it through. Ok, I managed to get the old one out. I slide the new one tip to heel cause theres no way I can feed it through the other way. Ok, now all I have to do is put the end cap on the heel end in the middle of the windshield. OMG !!!! Are you kidding me? I just knew I was gonna drop the end cap, it would be lost and I'd have to but a whole new blade because, "We don't sell just the end cap". Well of course I lost it but I was able to find it. I know there has got to be a better way so I came here. Now one thing I knew right up front is this. If I can take the whole blade off I can easily do the replacement. Shame on me for trying to do it the easy way.

So my question is, is there an easy way to put the end cap on the driver side blade in the middle of the winshield or should I just take the whole blade off? Just undo that one hex nut? Replacing a wiper blade should be this hard. I hope it's not just me

Thanxxx in advance.

Nevermind...

I got it. Common sense, right. Take the freakin blade assembly off. Insert the replacement, remount the blade assembly. Why do people insist on trying to do things without first removing what they know must be removed?
