I have found that my Proxxon industrial tools (made in germany) are crazy tough, I have yet to twist, crack them and I have helped some truck guys with it too. the problem is that the set is 1/2 inch drive but its TOUGH.

For such long extensions I prefer to use chunkier cross section like my 1/2 inch - 3/8 doesnt quite cut the mustard.

The transmission finally let go. Despite my efforts, the torque converter remained on the engine. But, I was going to do all those seals anyway. I'd rather have had it all come off in one piece though.
Anywhoo

Any suggestions as to what seals to replace? This tranny will be on it until I rebuild the original. It has 30k on it since its rebuilt. It may go for a full 100k.

I'm going to replace:
Front main seal
Front pump seal (giant Oring)
Pan gasket
All the crush washers

What else?

I've pulled two trannies in the past few weeks, (both from OM617s), and both trannies needed a lot of prying and banging before they would come out. There are four little pegs between the engine and TQ -- I'm guessing these are what make the tranny stick.

I agree. I have nothing but good to say about Kobalt tools.

How'd it go? Did you get the TC out yet?

Yup, whole tranny is out and in the new ride.

It was the top bolt with the bracket. Used the 3 long extensions from the flex disc all the way up to the bell housing with the engine jacked up. Undoing the engine mounts was immensely helpful. It wasn't the easiest thing to do, but its done.

In the dirt under a jacked up car is miserable. We are doing the install in my cousins mecca of a shop. It will be very difficult to go back to lying in the dirt after working in a real shop.

Going over to finish up the car early Sunday morning. I'm looking forward to getting my ride back.

Oh mama, it has all 4 gears and reverse with no slippage.

Only issue is this tranny is even slower to go in reverse than my bad tranny. I can wait, but great day.

Miles of smiles though. Having actual clutch grip is emotionally satisfying.
