Question Wierd instrument panel illumination problem.

Last night after an entire day of cleaning, I hop in the 99 S-420 to fill it with gas for my wife. I turn the exterior lamp switch all the way clockwise. The center and left instrument panel lights for the fuel volume and speedometer/odometer comes on but the ones on the right side (clock and the tachometer) are not illuminated. I reposition the key a couple items and even start the car but those instruments are not illuminated. I decide not to go get gas. I come back in 20 minutes and the same thing happens. I decide to go to buy gas anyways. I drive to the gas station less than a mile away and the next thing I know, those all instruments are illuminated. I don't recall performing any specific action right before the lights came on.

Any ideas? Thanxxx in advance.

You have a faulty bulb that is coming and going. The cluster will have to come out for the bulbs to be replaced.

I assume the smart thing to do would be replace all the bulbs in the cluster at the same time, right?

Anything else I should do while the cluster is out?

Thanxxx
