Chris

When I was putting in a new timing chain on my W126, 117 motor(5 liter V8) , I couldn't hardly see what the pictures were showing me. I had to go to this forum several times for advice. All I had then was the cd. When I got the manuals, I couldn't believe how much clearer everything is. I didn't know you could even get them anywhere, except if someone was willing to sell used ones. It's not a question IF the manuals are worth splurging on or not. It's more that the cd is really a rip off!! There is NO REASON that the pictures are not clear. I can scan in pictures on my $39 HP scanner that are far superior to what is on the cd. Not to mention the disorganization of the cd. It's very hard to navigate the cd to find what you want. Luckily I have a son who helped me with this, or I might have also used it for a coaster. The bottom line is, MB doesn't want you to fix your own car. They don't supply information on the transmission, for instance. This is unfortunate, since it is such a piece of ****!! Long term, buying the manuals is an excellent investment, for someone who is going to keep their W126 for a long time. And why not, where can you buy a better safer more dependable car for that kind of money?

Unfortunately the first thing I went to was beautifull as it was a line drawing. Here it is:

It is a lot clearer on my screen than it is after reduction to this small file size.

Woody...first let me say that for all my cars I've ever had, the first thing I do is go out and buy FACTORY shop manuals. I totally can appreciate having a good, accurate and vehicle specific manual....

As for the CDs....I've had first hand experience with poor pix quality of electronic manuals which were created using a PDF format. I've seen ones where the pix were virtally unusable and I've seen others where the pix looked as good as they did on paper....So, it apparently IS possible to have clear pix in PDF....the question is why didn't they do this with the MBZ CDs????

Maybe people in the forum can create our OWN CDs
...people with paper manuals scanning in chpts and pix...prolly all kinds of copyright issues tho, oh well.

Steve,

That particular pix is completely acceptable to me....can you find one that would reflect what some are saying about terrible pix quality?

It's the pictures, not the drawings that are poor quality. Unfortunately, most are pictures.

It probably has to do with the point at which the original manual was done. I picked a 103 engine which was a later arival. Earlier manuals had pictures. Try this one from the A/C manual:

The grainy nature and checker board effect is on the original and is not due to reposting here.

Ahhh....so there's actual scanned photographs in there...this is what looks so bad? I can certainly believe this!

In this case, what is the overall qaulity of the line drawings?

Steve...jep, I can see how pix like that could be frustrating. I've seen pix in paper manuals that even left a lot to be desired! Then, scanning those and compressing them for electronic form would just make it THAT much worse.

To post bigger pix, you have to have the pix on a server somewhere. This way you can put a link in your message that simply makes reference to the pix on the server.
