Five or six times over the past several months my 1992 500SL would not start. I would turn the key and all the dash lights would come on as usual, but the engine would not turn over. I would then fiddle with the key or lock and unlock the car and retry and the engine would start as usual. Yesterday none of these things worked. I ended up calling roadside service and the technician told me that it was a "neutral safety switch". The car had to be towed into the dealer. Does this sound like the proper diagnosis of my problem? Thanks, JR

I agree with the other answer on this matter, but the neutral switch has also given some problems

Your symptom fits exactly the way the ignition switches fail on a SL.
