an OVP question
hello everyone...
Is the OVP a one-time replacement where the original batches of these parts were defective or is it a regular interval replacement much like the O2 sensor? Reason I ask is the OVP in my '91 300E has a 104 p/n (on my 103 engine) so I assume the original has been replaced. I had all but ruled out a bad OVP for my car stalling when hot in drive idle or when decelerating hot (not temp hot but after being driven for awhile in stop n go 90 degree TX heat). That is until a bad OVP may have shown its hand by leaving the ABS light on the last couple of stalls. Anyone ever heard of replacing this part more than once, or am I just the cursed one? TIA as always! ~Paul _____________________ '91 300E, 211k miles |

The OVP has a number 201 540 37 45 for the later KE and 201 540 08 45 for the early. You should probably use the later one. I mention this as there is no part of the number that is 104 or 103. Are you looking at the right part?

Oops..
Yes indeed I was looking at the wrong part! Thanks Steve
![]() I just pulled it out and the p/n is 201 540 38 45 neither of the p/n's you mentioned. Made by Siemens, in Austria with a single 10amp fuse on top. Is replacement in order given the symptoms I descriped above? The fuse is intact, but when I shake the OVP, there's a rattle inside (something loose apparently). Thanks again ![]() ~Paul _________________ '91 300E, 211k miles |

Now you are on the right part. The number 201 540 38 45 is one of the early numbers that have been replaced by 201 540 37 45.
The fact that you have an old number probably means its an original part. I would replace it just on prejudice if it were an original part. Check the date code on the side. I would also replace any that rattle inside.
