I'm in the market for a '98 E320 Wagon w/ AWD. This car beat out the A6 Avant in my mind. Question: How is the new AWD drive system performing? I remember the 300TE's w/ 4-matic were a bit undependable. Audi wrote the book on AWD, but I want the MB Is the new MB system up to par?

I haven't seen any problems with either system...The only problem with the old 4matic system is that it was way complicated for what they were trying to accomplish. The new system is much simplified from what I have read and seen.
I think it is the same basic system as on the ML. ------------------ Benzmac: ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN LEAD TECHNICIAN FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |

The new 4-Matic system is very simple in mechanical design. The system relies on computer controls to that allow the braking system to keep wheels from slipping. It works just like the ML320/430, but without the 2-speed transfer case. A great option for foul weather!
