I have this problem with my 190e 2.3 1987. I was driving it and the car just stopped and i was not able to start it again. The starter was already replaced, the distributor cap was checked and so was the wiring. The mechanics tells me it has something to with a faulty sensor that is linked to the transmission and that is cutting off the power. Would you have any info on that sensor?function?price? thanks

Yes the engine turn. As for the starter motor i believe it works. The fuel pump does have to be change asper the mechanics but no words on the relay.

I also have a problem with the radio the anti-theft seems to be activated because i only have dotted line on the dial is there anything i can do or do i need to have it reprogrammed by MB. it`s a Becker Grand Prix.

Hi Benzmac
How do I confirm the fuel pump relay is
the cause when car start to stall once a while. It can be then restarted immediately with no problem and idling smoothly at
around 750-800 RPM.
Could it be the CIS-E computer contact
problem as described by RAE190 ?.
I am worry as most the stall problem
in this forum does not have a solution.
In fact some of owners spend a lot of $$$
by replacing this and that without the
problem resolved.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

A tech can usually open the relay and look at the circuit board. If there are any black or burned spots it should be replaced. Also sometimes I have seen solder cracks in the board.

Thanks Benzmac, I got the FP relay replaced
yesterday after the car permenantly stalled
while on the way home. It is working now now and hope the stall problem is gone as well.
Thanks

I got the relay checked before but no sign
of failure. However, the car stalled
permenantly yesterday while on the way
home. After replacing the FP relay, the
car run as normal and hopefully, the stall
problem is gone as well. BTW, is it
neccessary to keep a spare FP relay like
a spare tyre since it is known to be defective.
Thanks.

The new relay will only fail if the amperage draw of the fuel pump exceedes the limit of the circuit of the relay. The new relay has a re-designed curcuit board that will not fail like the old one.
