As the airfoil of the blades on squirrel fans is totally dependant on direction, reverse direction effeciency is so drastically lost
that you may not notice air on either side of the fan .[ unlike a prop style blade]
So I agree that fan cage polarity/direction is the most likely problem if the fan motor is running.....

I just worked on my car today and I didnt install the blower in backwards. The blower doesnt even turn on now and its a brand new blower. I made sure all the wires were connected good and I checked the fuses. It still wouldnt turn on. I followed the wires back from the blower and it lead to this gold square type thing that has coils or something in it. Its behind the battery and its on the firewall held in by two screws. Does anybody know the name of this and would this make the blower not turn on?

Ok, I got the blower to work today. But it only stayed on for 2 seconds and the #1 fuse in the fuse box blew. Anybody know what the problem might be now?

Did you ever solve this problem? Additionally, how hard is it to R&R the blower motor? Did you follow any instructions?

Keep us posted,

I checked all the fuses in the fuse box and their were some fuses that werent in the right place. Like, I found some 8a fuses and they were suppose to be 16a. So I checked all the fuses and made sure I had the right fuse in each place. After that, I tested the blower and it worked fine and it didnt blow the #1 fuse. I dont know if the wrong fuses in the wrong places were the problem or not, but it seemed to work when I straightened it out.

Its pretty easy to get to the blower motor. You just take off the whole wiper assembly, the cowling, and then the blower motor cover. I didnt use instructions because I didnt have any, so I decided to figure it out on my own. I found out that it was pretty easy.

Thanks for the update. My 190 interior fan has made some squeaks but then died down but I thought I would get to know what it would take. I might try lubing the bearings if it starts up again.

Benzes seem to be the most sensitive cars regarding fuses .... or maybe more accurately the fuse setup is very prone to trouble. I did the same thing regarding going through the fuses. I also have a habit of rotating them whenever I am in that area. I have never seen a car that can have a fuse where the link isn't blown, but hidden corrosion on one end or the other can cause a problem.

On one of our cars I just pulled all the fuses, all of them. I took a rag and soaked it in WD40 and cleaned all the fuse holders. The fuses do turn much more easily now and all the electrical are solid.

Keep us posted,

Haasman
