My Benz has trouble when trying to back up. It does a fairly good job when the car has been driven for a while. When the car is cold, you might as well forget about it. Usually you have to get the RPMs up a ways before it starts backing up, but once it seems to sorta lock into reverse, it seems pretty solid and you can reduce the RPMs down to an idle. Possible vacuum problem...but where do I start looking for this? Thanks...

This model has a "reverse" band adjustment bolt just above the kick down solenoid on the rt. side of the trans. Many times the lock nut comes loose & the adjustment bolt will back out. Have a tech check it out.

Hmmmm. I wonder if my 126 300SD has the same problem. When I engage reverse, I can go a distance back and then it seems to "bind up". It's like someone hit the brakes. My fluid is a few mm low, but I've never experienced this before.

Due to money being tight, the tech involved in this situtation would apparently be me. If you can give me a hint as to what I need to do to bring this back into adjustment I would be very greatful. What does the steel vacuum hose running down to the tranny have to do with the operation of the vehicle? I plan put alot of time/effort/money into this car to have it running like a charm, but I didn't intend to have someone do the work for me, that is where the learning/adventure ends.
