Rear wash wipe 230TE

The rear wiper works ok but the washer does not work I have checked the pump it is ok. I had the same problem on a 1983 123 series and it has repeated itself on an 89 124 series. Any ideas or shortcuts as to what the problem is - I don't think it is the motor.
