Hello Listers,
Just wanted to get your expert opinion on the W109 chassis. I'm trying to find a decent 280 SEL (1968-73) and i'd like to know if there are any areas that I have to look out for? Do these models have a lot of problems? Which year is the best? Should I just get a 300 SEL instead? Thanks in advance for your help. Gilbert |

The only one of these that I ever liked was the 6.3 because of the obvious. These cars were known to be maintenance hounds, beware.

The 280SEL is a 108 chassis and the 300SEL is 109. The 109 chassis is air suspension and is a definitly a maintenance burden.
I always liked the 280SEL 4.5. It was powerful and the least maintenance avialable in that chassis. ------------------ Steve Brotherton Owner 24 bay BSC Bosch Master, ASE master L1 26 years MB technician |
