Funny White Bottle?
Was checking for vacuum leaks on my car and found 2 lines that were causing massive leakage. After tearing my car apart, I finally find out that they both go to a white botttle inside the left front fender underneath the plastic mudguard. This white plastic bottle is cracked. Is this a vacuum accumulator?

Does it really need to be replaced or could I just cap of the lines at the main vacuum junction. The lines that are hooked up to the accumulator are for headlight adjustment and transmission S/E control solenoid. Also where should the main vacuum supply line be hooked up to on the engine?

The accumulator should be installed, I wouldn't bypass or eliminate it. A US accumulator should work fine, grey-market shouldn't pose a technical problem. The vacuum supply should be from the intake manifold port. Gilly |

Thanks for your reply. I work in Kuwait and can get a new bottle at the MB dealer. My intake manifold has three nipples on the main intake throat and 1 nipple on intake runners 1 and 2. The center nipple is where the vacuum advance lines are hooked to. The forward nipple is for the fast idle when a/c is on and the aft nipple is for thermodelay valve. The nipples on the intake runners are for the tranny kickdown and tranny vacuum modulator valve. I have looked at the EPG at the MB dealer here and they dont show exactly where the main vacuum line hooks up on the manifold, but they do show the 3 nipples and none of them seem to show a "Y" fittting that seems to be required. My car being a 190(carb) model is very rare here and the techs at the MB dealer dont really seems to have any answers. I only got into checking my vacuum lines because of them being totally misrouted by the last "techs" that rebuilt my engine and the economy gauge that was always in the red even before the engine rebuild. I just cant stand to see that gauge in the red.

Without the diagram, the next step is just what anyone else would need to do-hunt it down, there should be a line connected to the tank, right? Follow it. It is a Kuwait model 190 carbed and no one there knows about it? Is there a vacuum chart sticker in the underhood area? Gilly |

I have looked everywhere under my hood in the past and could not locate vacuum routing diagram. I know where the lines for the vacuum accumulator hook up, that is how I found the vacuum leak to begin with. I just dont know where the main system vacuum supply line should be hooked up on the intake manifold, I have tried them all with many different results. I could spend hours talking about the knowledge level of auto repair shops in Kuwait and the MB dealer is just barely above the auto repair shops. I have seen brand new 600 series Mercedes being repaired at theses shops because the Kuwaites dont want to pay the labor charge of around $50 at the MB dealers. There are no Kuwaiti technicians, they dont like to get their hands dirty. Most of these tech are from Syria and Lebanon they are hired and then learn by watching and word of mouth. In Kuwait we have 3 main car repair areas. One of these is the junk yard, the other 2 ares have thousands of repair shops, I am not kidding I really mean thousands. I have looked far and wide through these shops and most of the time I end up answering their questions instead of them answering mine and of course there is a language barier.
