How do I clean the throttle body on an M119 engine?

I tried to clean the butterfly valve a couple days ago and could not get to it because there are two screens in the way as well as the mass air flow sensor. I also tried taking off the cylinder that these are in but I could not get the band loose enough. Everything on this engine has a very tight fit! Suggestions?
