Please see my posting to 4-19-99. After the sensor was replaced by the dealer, everything was ok for about a month, when last Sunday the gauge did not register full after a fill-up. Called dealer for an appointment yesterday, and when I explained that this was the second time with the same problem, they fell allover themselves getting the car in "at my convience". "My convenience" was this morning, because as I told them, I didn't spend all of that money expecting to have problems like this. They tested the electrical system again and told me that it appears to be a bad gauge (this time), so they ordered a replacement instrument cluster and will install it when it comes in "at my convenience" - which will be in about two months as I will be out of town for that period.

FYI, we have a strict "lemon-law" in California - basically the dealer gets 3 shots at repairing a problem, and if they don't or can't, they just bought your car back. I'm only mentioing this because of the immediate action they took today, knowing this is "strike two"!

Read a report that says Mercedes believes that sulfur in the fuel in the good ole U.S.A. is causing the fuel gauge sending unit to register incorrectly. Don't think any of the redesigned parts are available yet. Cars having problems are E/CLK/ & ML class.

I am posting this Feb. 5, 2000. I have a 2000 E430 with the same problem. This is almost a year later. The car is in the shop less than a month old. Did you ever get the fuel gauge to work? Is it still working? My dealer also told me there is nothing wrong with the MB design. It is a problem with the California fuel.

I just spoke to my regional MB rep about this. He said it is caused by the oxygenated fuel in the winter. It affects c, clk, and ml MB cars. He also says that Honda is having the same problem (though I haven't heard that)along with other manufacturers. I just had my floats replaced. We'll see if this works. If it becomes an annual repair, I will ask them to extend the warranty on these parts.

My car is a 2000 E class. Does anyone know if the the E and CLK models share a similar fuel sensor design? I am really worry now...I really do not want to have a recurrent problem.

It is funny that my dealer blamed the [b]California[b] gasoline additives.

2000 E class, similar problem with fuel gauge, apparently a common MB problem indicating a full tank as only 7/8 full. Dearler changed the fuel gauge sensor problem has gone away so far..

Hm....looks like a common problem on W210s..
