Talking Mobile Phone now fitted in my M/B

I mentioned some time ago that I was going to fit a Car Phone in my E320 Cdi Estate.

I have had this done and finally got round to taking some pictures. (See Below)

The set up comprises –

Matching Dash Board Pad from M/B
Nokia 8210 Phone (This has a voice dial feature)
Phone cradle and leads from – Autoleads in UK -
http://www.autoleads.co.uk/home/home.asp (Actually made by – THB in Germany) –
http://www.thb.de/english/prod.htm
Cell Phone Aerial under the Rear Bumper (Also from Autoleads)
Microphone (Fitted next to lamp panel in roof)

The above connects to my MB Audio 30 with SatNav. (Would work identically with any radio having MUTE feature)

It gives me One Key Push Dialling (Voice Command) and Answering, with incoming sound over the car speakers, having automatically muted the Radio/CD.
It charges the phone to Mfg’s spec.’s.
You can also unhook the part of the cradle holding the phone to have private conversations if you have passengers.

I can only say it works immaculately with outstanding reception. Much better than using it in stand alone mode.
It makes receiving and making phone call’s in the car, when travelling, a much safer procedure.
As you can see from the pictures the fitment matches the car (except perhaps for the phone case colour) and the mode of operation fit’s in with the M/B way of doing it.
The Display on the Instrument even changes to “PHONE” when in use.

Cost of Genuine M/B phone fitment in UK – Best part of $1500
My solution (Including fitting cost) Under $500.00

Hope this will prompt/help others in search of similar facilities.

Mike

Hi Zoid,

People I purchased from now has changed Web Site to :- http://www.thb.de/

They list distributors all over the World.

To copy what I have fitted you need :-

THB Universal Classic System
Aerial Mounted inside rear Bumper Panel
Mounting Pad to match upholstery (From MB Agent)
Sutiable Mobile Phone (I found the Nokia 6310i is trhe best. Voice dialling Included)

The phone holder fits on the pad (2 Screws).
The Black Box goes behind the Passenger Footwell Panel.
You Plug the Phone Holder Cable into the Black Box.
A cable from the Black Box plugs into the Radio.
Another Cable from the Black Box picks up 12v from the Power to the radio.
You plug the Aerial into the Black Box.

Thats it. Dead simple.

I actually paid to have mine done. It took them under 2 Hours.

I now have a system fitted in my latest E320 CDi Estate. One of the last made in the MB Factory.

Nearly every extra in the book. Looks a Million Dollars.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the info. You have a nice license plate. With the setup, will I be able to use the multifuction of the steering wheel to answer a call?
I have a MY02 W203 C180K coupe with audio 10+ CD changer, no Command and no prewired for phone.

I noticed in the pictures that you had posted a "PHONE" appears in the instrustment cluster.

Thanks and I am excited about it,I had check the THB website, they do not have any distributor in Singapore.
Maybe I can be their agent, haha.

MB Phone

Hello again,

Re the license plate, in the UK we buy an sell them all the time. I have had this one for about 15 years.

People make them say things
K 1 NGS (KINGS)
S 1 NGS (SINGS)
P 1 LOT (PILOT)
COL 1 N (COLIN)
A 5 TON (ASTON)

Some people pay up to $200,000 for the most exclusive ones

The multifuction on the steering wheel is the one thing that will not work.

I have researched everywher I can think of but no one seems to do any interfaces for the MB CAN Bus.

I would pay a lot to get my multifuction working.

No - the prewired for phone does not matter as this system does not use it

The "PHONE" message appears in the instrustment cluster without doing anything else as soon as you either dial out or receive a call.

ONE OTHER thing you do on the wiring I forgot to mention is :-
You Plug the speaker Cable into the Black Box that was in the Radio and connect another cable from the Black Box to the radio in the speaker socket.
This allow the muting of the Radio when using the phone.

I put my Microphone up on the Roof Consol, but most anywhere in the center line of the Car will do.

Regards

Mike

Mike,

Do you have any information on the genuine MB phones available in the UK? I am trying to retrofit either of the optional ex-works phones (Nokia 6090 fixed handset or Nokia 6100 series mobile in cradle) to my 1999 R129 SL; however my dealer is drawing a blank. I am keen to use the telephone functionality of my Audio 30 headunit. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
