Red face

Bought my 1984 380SL for $2500 in June 2005. Less than 1800 miles on rebuilt engine, clean, new pioneer sound system, new tires, only problem was fuel pump relay. It was my neighbors toy he put over $12,000 in car since 2003. He recently got married and the new wife said the "Babe" mobile must go. I jokingly made the offer and he accepted. Its a nice compliment to my 1988 signal red 190E AMG. I'm seeking other SL's at this price

Thumbs up My Turn

1980 240D 5 speed with 240k on the now partially dead engine. Taking it to the shop in the am. Chased the car saw it in a parking lot. Found the owners name by getting in the glove compartment (risky) Owner said she had donated it to the VFDP. i contacted them gave $300.00. They gave me a slip for my donation. I guess that equals free!

1977 240D 5 speed 246k Car was hit by a deer on passenger headlight fixed for $100.00, the body guy doing another $600.00 to eliminate all rust. Paid $159.00 for a set of headlights. Just turned it into a veggie-benz at a dyi cost of around $400.00. The car was given to me by a freind because he was PO'd at the insurance companies offer after the deer collision. Insurance offered him $900.00 he parked it at his house, his wife was tired of looking at it. Me and my kid drug it up on a trailer, drug it home, went to walmart bought a battery. Turned the key, it coughed a grey smoke cloud and engine fired right up. Total cost to drive another 240d free on veggie power $1259.00 give or take a $100.

1987 300td

I got mine off a law student who owned it in Tulsa OK. She got it up here to 7200 feet and it sat for 5 years. $500 purchase price, reconditioning costs will be in the neighborhood of $1000-$1500.

Smile '79 300td

I got my '79 300TD with 284.000Km at ~3300$ (2800 Euro's). Engine runs great and body rust-free.

Still have ome minor repair/adjustments done to it but (changing some gaskets and such) but all when I have the time and money to see to them. For now, all I have to do is enjoy and maintain a great car.

April 2005: Bought my celery green '77 240D 4-speed manual at 398K miles for $2000, sold it for $3000 about 2K miles later. Hated to see it go, but we don't have a garage and we live very close to the ocean - she would've rusted out over the winter in about 2 seconds.

October 2005: Then bought our silver w/black leather '95 E320 wagon for $4500. High miles (199K), but worth it. Had all the expensive stuff done (wiring harness, head gasket) within 15K miles, and the AC works. Missing the rear headrests, but the seller is going to check his parents' storage unit for them over Thanksgiving. Heck of a grocery getter/Home Despot runner.

First one paid too much- $5k in 95' for the 1981'. Not a clean car and could have paid another grand or two and got half the miles.
In 1999, purchased the 1983 and it has some paint damage and dings due to poor care by the second owner-but he did about 2k worth of unessary engine work trying to fix- it was a bad fuel filter! It was low mileage at about 120k.
2002, Got the 300E for *free*. Garaged kept, been to the dealer only 3 times, had oil changes every 4-6 months regardless of mileage. 69,000 !!!
Of course, it has been the nicest and most expensive car. New suspension rubber, radiator, etc..

I payed

$6,500 formy 96 c-280 sport, has lorinser exhaust and spoiler, 148k with new fan motors. It was blowing warm AC and the fix was part of the deal. I'm in the middle of first plug and connector change(thanks Athor Dalton and others), and found the vaccum line unplugged under manifold. The last oil changer left it hanging in the wind. My rear headrests now retract . This site is the best! but the lady gets alittle jealous of the time I spend on research . Thanks all

I just recently bought a 1985 380SE for $1000 and had it delivered for $100. It has 263K miles, but runs and drives great, no leaks or unusual noises. Everything except for two windows are in perfect working order. Rust and dent free, but paint is faded. Interior is excellent. The only downside is that it has NO maintainence records. Also, has brand new tires that was installed before I purchased it.

Well now I'm thinking I probably paid too much, but I just recently acquired a '85 300TD for $6200. The biggest plus is that 30K miles ago it got a new engine, and not some junkyard scrap but a reman from Germany, I have the receipt, $7500 just for the part. Its still under warranty for another 18K miles. Along with the engine it got rebuilt turbo, and a new radiator, oil cooler, water pump and various other bits. Body is straight with no rust and decent paint.
Downside is (was in some cases ) it had warped front rotors, steering play, needs an alignment and probably some front end, and has the typical chassis issues bugbears with the central locking, ACC vents etc.
