I might have already answered athis but in Dec 2001 I paid $19,000 for my '95 E420. It was 1 owner, all records, 56,000 miles and pristine. I now have 68,000 miles and it runs great, although I did have to spring for the new evaporator but at least I now have cold air. I could not find a new car that felt as gtreat and performed as good as this one. Just bought my wife a 04 Cadillac SRX and while it is very nice and handles extremely well I still like to drive the benz

I paid too much for mine

In this May, I paid an even $5000 for my 1991 560 SEL with 101K miles. The car has an excellent paint and like new interior. Having changed most of the fluids, filters and some repair works, I have since put in another $1000 including tax and state inspection.

I still have to fight this high idle problem. "sigh" There is just not end to "small" problems on these old cars.

$2500 for an '87 260E with 213,000 miles on it. It looks like new (well, almost) both inside & out. The seats look like no one's ever sat in them. I've put another $200 in it so far, mostly little rubber fittings, filters, serpentine belt, a couple of light bulbs, etc. I just had the rear wheels/brakes off to adjust the parking brake shoes. It looked like they were maybe 1/4 worn and had never been adjusted before. That ansd a couple of turns on the cable adjuster & I've got a real parking brake again. The only tatty things about it are the plastic headlight rims/bezels whatever they're called. $140/pr for replacements or $240/pr for the "Euro light" conversions. I think I just talked myself into the Euro lights. Maybe next month.

Oh yes, bought it from a fairly local used car dealer/junkyard through ebay. It was a trade at the local Benz dealer that he bought at auction. He claims I "stole" it from him.

Doncha love smileys?

Paid $3700 for mine in 2002 (167K) and $600 for a rebuilt fuel distributor last year (bought the car with a rough idle - lived with it till started to get headaches commuting to/from work).

I paid $1500 for my first MB. A 240D, 82. I traded it and $377.50 for the 84 380SE which I am currently doing a valve job and piston replacement in. Guess what happened.

The danged thing jumped time on the left cam due to a broken guide. I turned it over enough trying to figure that out and broke the exaust valve on the no 5 cylinder. The valve head turned upside down and poked the piston. I am retired and somewhat of a dumb**s and decided to try DIY when I should
have hired someone that knows how to do the job.

I paid 2,500.00 for a 83 SL 172k miles. Updated timing chain, calif car, no rust. torn soft top, new paint but stained with engine coolant around fenders, and a high idle, as well as a leaking seal on cylinder 8.

Good shape other wise but no cream puff.

I sold my 73 450 sl with similar problems as this one for 7,000.00.

Just bought a 88 300e with 108k miles on it... driven for years by an elderly couple who sold it to their grandson.

Great records. Paid 3500

Needs a window regulator in the right rear window which I won't do.

I am doing transmission fluid/filter, power steering fluid/filter, steering damper.

Will then move on to front shocks, probably rears... will get mounts also for the front.

I just plan to change out fluids very regularly and see how this goes.

Owned a 280se 4.5 1972 for 12 years. sold it in 1998

I bought my 1992 300CE in 2000 for $14,500 with 78k on the odo.

I have rebuilt the transmission, and the head since then, due to poor maintenance byt he previous owner.

Other than that I have only done regular oil changes and basic servicing.

The tranny was paid for by my company because I used it as a company car, my dad paid for the head, but I had the chain and guides and whatever else needed to be done at that time while it was open. I only did the head because the gasket was seeping a little and I didn't want to wait until it failed.

Overall The car has been very reliable.
