About a year ago I paid $19,500 for a 97 S500 with 88,000 miles. Needed engine mounts, accumulators, front shocks (non ADS), and an oil sender. Did all these things myself for about $550. Car now has 101,000 and is flawless (knock on wood )

bought a year or so ago for 4000 .was said to need a head gsket. $3000 in misc work plus head job later it is running really well. love the car. pretty clean body and very clean interior.

84 eruo 280e five speed originaly brought into country for Amerithon ralley in 84. was race prepped with stripped interior plastic windows and a bed in back. ralley canceled. laid aroung a while then was equipped with an older 240 interior and used as a parts chaser by the (now) driver/ dealer. i bought in about 1993 drove about 40k took off skid plate and discarded (i regret that now) installed radio and ac, sold when my son began driving. rebought this year for $500. has been partially underwater. not running. thinking of making a vintage racer of it. good price since 5 speed is worth a lot more than that.

have owned 29 benzes, one twice, all bought old or older. usually fix up use and sell for not much loss. have made money on a few. love benzes for quality of build and engineering. newer ones scary with all the electronic gizmos. hoping for a dodge magnum with mb diesel and six speed. that i will buy new.

Smile Always Wanted One

I had always wanted a Mercedes. Finally got mine. 1982 300D, paid $1500.00 for it. A/C doesn't work, tach works intermittently, no real rust except the two front doors on the interior. Don't know mileage as odometer doesn't work. Am planning on keeping and fixing up as I go. Engine and transmission run fine.

93 300e 161k miles-paid 3400 for it and it needs some work (common rough idle/hard start and a tire balance) and the roof has some rust bubbling near the windshield so I'll be replacing the whole unit having found one for a great price (I also know a paint guy to do the work for only the cost of paint). Surprisingly the interior is nearly perfect other than the front door panels which had those screw on cupholders (I reupholstered for $15 in fabric) and the front seats have minor wear but no tears, so a little touch up on them and its immaculate. Exterior is in nice shape as well. I picked it up as a project car and plan on keeping it for quite some time so I feel I got a pretty good deal.

Back in the saddle again

Hello:I am new to the forum and has been 6 years since I sold my 81 240d and regretted it ever since. I have waited patiently and driven many miles to pass over several Ebay pieces of $*$##! in which all the photos conveniently obscure most defects behind other parts of the car (or blowby looked like a locomotive). I saw THE one in yesterday's paper. A 1985 300d with 101K actual miles, all records, all manuals nearly a 9.5 inside and out. The lady wanted $4500 which is far too much but I agreed to pay $3900. I know many of you will say I paid too much but price is one thing and simply finding a jewel like this at ANY price is another. Happy Happy

The 85 300d in good condition is a car I was looking for for a while but hard to find. I did find one for 4500 with 220,000 a year ago that I had to take a pass on. I think you got an excellent deal if you love the car and it's in such nice condition, and you're happy with it. I recently sold mine (gas) with 275k for almost that much... These cars were built to last.

88 300E Gray/tan back in 98 for $7500 w/128k
97 S320 LWB 4 months ago@ $14,300; dark blue/light tan, 62k miles. Absolutely a showroom car. Bought from original Florida owner. Only prob is passenger side rearview mirror has wiring problem and smokes. Working on getting it fixed.

Have driven it for 4k miles so far. Other than tinting the windows, installing an Alpine MP3/cd 6 disc changer that sounds great btw to the stock stereo and new centercaps for the wheels, the car cost me no money in repairs. Amazing car for the money.

Wink Misleading info in Kelly Blue Book

I see references to this book in some threads and I really think this is a low ball book designed for auto dealers to low ball customers coming to them with a trade-in! Their valuations for a premium used car in mint condition are ridiculous!!

The NADA valuations are much more in line with the real value of used Mercedes and should be used by both buyers and sellers for a more fair pricing approach.

Compare the two systems on a known car and look at the difference......
