Today my black 85 500sel was keyed from the front door one side over the trunk and all the way to the other door. What will it cost me to get it repaired some didn't go trough that muck of the clear coat but some went all the way down to the metal. It even event zig zag over my deal pin strips and rip them up. I HATE SOME PEOPLE!!!!!

Sorry to hear that, Dan. You have my sympathy. There are some real scumbags in this world. Some deserve to be shot on sight.

The reason this sort of thing happens more often is because there are no consequences for these punks.

A basecoat/clearcoat paint job is difficult to repair. The advantage in the lacquer days was that such things could be repaired more easily. You will need to go to a good paint shop to find out what is the best approach.

Best of luck,

Hi Dan;
Sorry to hear about the car.
With the basecoat/clearcoat, you're probably looking at a repaint for the affected panels.
Best way to find out cost, is to go to several body shops and get some estimates as prices are going to vary from shop to shop. As a point of reference, I had a nasty scratch in one of my doors a few years ago, and the cost was about $300 CDN to respray the door.

Dan,
I really hate hearing these type of stories. It really pisses me off to know that some a##hole with nothing else better to do with his/her time and obviously lacking in the guts dept. finds this type of thing rewarding. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. When found they should be shot with ***** and hung for stinking!! Good luck
and keep your head up..

I'm really sorry about this Dan.
I hope it's not too expensive. I'm not too sure about insurance in the US, but could you claim through your insurance company if it was an expensive re-paint?

Oliver

All the more reason for a $0-deductible insurance policy. Sorry to hear about the vandalism - I'd go MENTAL if someone keyed my car...

Most auto policies today cover vandalism without the deductible. I have $500 deductible and my 54k mile 300SE was shot two weeks ago by kids and a BB gun. Total damage from 10 BBs was $3500...only 5 hit paint, the rest glass. The car didn't have a door ding or scratch in it. Bottom line is Nationwide picked up the whole tab!

Hey Benzman, the best way is to go to a body shop. But if money is a big issue than I would go with a cheaper alternate route. I have seen this product on TV called G27 which you can buy at Pep Boys under $20. It has a rubbing compound which lets you buff off alot of the fine scratches. For the scratches that is deep in the metal, they have these filler that matches your car color and fill in the key scratch. I have used the product, and I am really satisfy with the results for that price.
