The only engine that had a timing chain inspection requirement was the 1984-87 M102 in the 190E 2.3. Most chains will last 100-150k mi. If the tensioner fails the life of the chain can be cut in half. If you hear a rattle w/starting then have the tensioner checked(replaced).
