115 radiator

I'm on the lookout for a new radiator for my 1975 240D 115 - it's been bashed around a bit (missing/bent fins, looks like the two sides have been squashed in actually), and is now weeping a little. Also, at high speeds it runs cool (shade above 175) while when idling and driving slow round town much warmer (comfortably above half). The motor is in good nick (for 180000) and pulls well with good economy and have no reason to suspect any other problems

But, this is a 616 out of a 123, the 115 was a 230/4. I don't think they changed the rad. Should I be looking for a rad out of a 230/4 or a 240D. Will a 123 rad fit. Do they all interchage. I can mod the car or the rad but would prefer it if it'd slot straight in. The oil cooler isn't connected

Any help greatly appreciated

I have one. I think it is all metal. 75 plus shipping.

it is out of a 74 240d that i converted to 300d and replaced the rad with the larger 300 one.

Thanks Tom, would defo take you up on that... But realised I didn't state my location. I'm UK based... But out of interest, what do you reckon the shipping would be?
So would many different ones fit?

A W123 radiator can fit a W114/W115, but you need to tack a bracket on the bottom of the radiator support.

Probably more than a new rad.

Years ago, I installed one on one of my 250Cs. It consisted of a sheet metal bracket welded to the bottom of the radiator support, in essence giving the radiator a "shelf" to rest on.

ok, so I'm looking for any 115 radiator. And a 123 would need minor modifications?

....that diesel and gas may have different inlet/outlet locations.

Be careful....

Well, for one thing, the diesels had the oil cooler to the left of the radiator, and therefore, were not as wide. M130 engined cars had a full width radiator.

It's been so long for me, I don't recall the exact position of the diesel hoses for a W115. For the W126, W123, and W124 the gas/diesel radiators are most definitely not interchangable!

Too bad you're not in the US, I've got a W115 240D radiator out back in the trunk of one of the cars.....

yes it is a shame. It's got an oil cooler to the left in it now, disconnected though (and long since by the look of it). So the bottom hose is on the right, and the top in the middle. Where are they on a gasser? I just need to figure out whether it's out of a 123 or 115 now, any pointers?

Seeing as the oil cooler's disconnected, surely it'd be good to have a full width rad.

Well, the W115 will be brass, the W123 will be aluminum/plastic.
Not sure about the connections without checking, and it'll be dark by the time I get home...
