Running like a champ. Smooth starts and pulls great through mid-range. It has a bit of a hesitation when you tromp on the pedal but I'm still running it on the "default" settings of the ECU. I just got the muffler and need to get it installed before I take it out and about to find what it does on the freeway.

It's got a lopey idle problem. Kind of oddball. Cold, it's fine. Warm it up and put it into gear, it surges. Turn the A/C blower fan or the headlights on and it smooths right out. I dunno, maybe a over voltage supply to the , ahem, "transistorized" ignition module or the coil. Nothing to do with the idle solenoid 'cause it's not connected. Fuel pressure is a constant 42 p.s.i. even during the surges so it's not fuel related.

Great to hear! Today I took Holly's BMW 328i over to Erich's Loepke72's shop so that he could replace the struts which with the right tools is a pretty easy job! The car bounced in the front like a low rider so it was not a moment too soon.

When I got home, I decided to replaced the brake hoses on the 300D. The rear came off pretty easily but the fronts were a beast. I had this issue in the past and bought a set of Snap On line wrenches just in case. It did not help and I still managed to slightly round the hard brake line on the front right brake.

I did use WD40 but that did not help one bit. Any ideas?

After this, I decided to replace the fuel filter which was pretty straight forward and then take the car for a spin. I didn't get 1/4 mile before it broke down. Apparently replacing the fuel filter could cause air to get in the lines.. who knew?

After talking to Erich and David Poole from European Performance, I was able to get it running and limp home.

What's the dial on the injection pump. It seems to have 6 or so clicks as you turn it.

At first I thought that there was no pre-filter on these cars but it looks like there is one but the fuel line is too too short so there is a big kink on each side of the fuel line which I need to fix.

Im glad to see your efforts in the W115.

Try some pb blaster on the stubborn brake line fitting, or kroil.

The dial on the injection pump is the altitude compensator. At sea level you want it turned all the counter clock wise. The it moves up in a series of 2000 ft above sea level, all the way up to 8000 ft above sea level.

Thanks! Can ask a favor? Can you take a picture of the cable that adjusts to the idle speed control from the dash? Mine has been disconnected and i'd like to get an idea of how it goes on.

Under the hood on the linkage by the injection pump. The wire was dangling there.

Thanks!

Beautiful, it now makes sense! I have a missing screw that needs to go into the fitting that clamps the screw down.

How has it been starting without turning that idle knob? Or have you been holding down the pedal a bit?

Nope, it idles perfectly, maybe a tiny bit high. That was going to be my next question. When I connect the cable. Do I need to dial it full clock wise and then wire it up so that it stalls?

If it idles to high loosen that 13mm lock nut, and use a flat head screwdriver and lower the idle a bit.

The idle knob probably works reverse of how you might think it works. Turn the knob counter clockwise the idle goes up, turn it clock wise the idle drops to the normal.

So when you go to install the end piece turn the dash knob all the way clock wise to the stop.
The system should not be adjusted to the point that it stalls the motor, that's not the purpose of the knob.

You really only need the knob for cold starts, sometimes i turn it up a bit when I have the AC on, the york causes a small drop in RPM.

BTW, post some pics of the interior. How are the seat covers and the horse hair padding?

The seats have sheepskin, I have not pull the skin off but the horse hair on the front seats are shot. This is probably because the windshield rubber is shot and it leaks like crazy on the front seats when it rains. I found a set of blue seat covers in pretty decent shape for $125 / pair. I may buy and then dye them, or if the covers on this car are in reasonable shape, I can look at having them stuffed.
