Sorry, I can't get over how goreous this car IS! I keep coming back to look at the pics wishing mine were in that state. She needs to be taken to Pebble Beach. It'd be a 1st place for sure, ever thought of entering it?

Amber turn signal lenses

What market or application were the amber outer turn signal lenses used? I bought a nos set on Ebay a few years ago thinking I might use them on my coupe. They are really cool.

Tony,

The amber lenses were used in some European countries, France being one, and in Japan I believe. I installed them to highlight Anthracite's eyes a bit.

I have light bulbs in the clear and amber lenses but not hooked up.

Thanks,

I was looking through this thread last night

I was looking through this thread last night and my thoughts went forward to some nice spring/summer/fall weather. Here is a picture from one fine day last year that got me in the mood for another drive when all of the snow is gone.
Regards,

Great picture.

Did your car come stock with the bundt wheels or the painted hubcaps?

How did it get so clean? Surely that undercarriage has had some dirt on it, or been driven in the rain, in the past forty years - no? I ask, because I have my 39k-mile 500SE that is absolutely beautiful and perfect, but even my undercarriage has SOME dirt on it. Did you clean all those underhood/undercarriage bits?

The car is absolutely STUNNING. However, do you enjoy this car? Do you drive this car? It looks like a trophy.

There was a great article about the car in the STAR magazine a few mos ago. I don't see how one could ever drive this car in the rain-you could never detail away the dirt and muck that flys up underneath.

The car came withe the stock steel wheels and full wheel covers. I put on the bundt wheels for the weight savings and I liked the look of them on her.

It does not get driven in the rain for the obvious reasons and yes I cleaned all of those bits. See another view below of the rear under carriage.

What's not to enjoy? Yes she gets an excercise on nice sunny low humidity days on the back roads where I live. We both have smiles on our faces when we get back home.
There are some additional pictures and comments over on the MBCA.org website at this link.

Thanks for looking,

Bob,
Your car continues to be a inspiration to me as I scrape away 40 years of crud from the chassis of my coupe. It is also a valuable reference for authenticity.

Tony,

I'm glag I'm able to help you with your inspiration. Years of crud can be a good thing but be carefull as you remove it, be as gentle as you can. After the crud is removed you can maintain the look.

Unfortunately, the original undercoating is beyond repair-I'm going to bare metal and starting over.

Beauty Goes Deeper Than the Skin

I'm still kicking around. I remodeled Athracite's garage space last fall and thought I would share a couple of pictures with those of you that might be interested.

Thought I would share a couple of pictures I took today (05/09/12). As the title says "beauty goes deeper than the skin" so I thought the best depiction of that would be is to shoot some pictures of the most used space of Anthracite, namely the drivers foot area (drivers carpet removed for the photos.

It's interesting to see the grease pencil marks on the cover for the fuse box written by some one at the factory.

A close up of one of the original paper labels and additional grease pencil mark by an inspector or assembler also installed at the factory.

Enjoy.

Regards,

280SE Guy

And I thought my 280SE 4.5 was clean. Your car belongs in a museum.
