Using a slide hammer till tend to break parts, I'd be making some sort of screw puller. I'd also be pulling a bit, soaking with solvent , tapping back down and repeating. This breaks up junk holding things together. This back and forth also works with rusted bolts.

The factory method is to use the exact tool he used. Yes he might not have used the tool correctly, but that is the approved way to remove these injectors. I like to move the slide "back-handed" (pushing, not pulling). I feel it gives more speed and power to the slide.
