If you’re having trouble and you’re sure it’s not the wiring or the socket it will be the SAM. They use a power semiconductor to switch the voltage to perform the PWM. I suspect that this is a readily available MOSFET that can be replaced easily.

I checked it today, and I was mistaken about the center brake light. Id does in fact work, so I imagine the brake switch is good. What is this MOSFET you speak of? Is there a place that can repair something like this?
