I can't comment on good shops, but I can definitely comment on bad shops. Everybody, stay away from Newken Auto Service at 60 Green Lane, Unit 22-24, Thornhill, ON.

They're very dishonest, unprofessional and have terrible customer service. And when they give you an estimate, it's totally useless, because they charge a lot more than the estimate when you get the final bill, for the same job.

Just stay away from Newken Auto Service if you don't want to be ripped off!

Canadian MB Parts

I've used these guys before, free shipping on orders over $100. Prices are good and they're name brand parts.http://www.autopartsonlinecanada.com/

Good upholstery and glass shop in Toronto

I can recommend Canadian Auto Glass and Trim at 219 Gerrard St E in Toronto. Phone 416 323 1865. They just repaired both front seat bottoms on my 83 300sd - fixed broken springs, repadded with high density foam. $150 per seat which seemed a good deal to me. They often work on Mercs, BMWs etc.

They also quoted $275 CAD to supply and install a new windshield for me which is about 25% cheaper than anyone else.

Not a "restoration" shop but a reasonable, workmanlike operation.

Just don't believe them when they say they open at 8am. 8:45 is more like it!

$275 is not the best price. There are people who will come to your home or office to install the glass for $250 (for the 124 body, aftermarket glass). One guy I have dealt with, Charlie McNally also uses him (just so that we know he does quality work), is Mirek at 416-948-9141 (I never actually understood the name of his company he does have an accent).
In my opinion (some of my friends who live downtown share my sentiment), many shops east of Jarvis street in downtown Toronto are rather shady operations. Use them at your own risk; I would certainly not trust my Benz to any of those characters (your mileage may vary).

Mercedes Benz Canada sells for 75 CAD.I would buy from the dealer,if I want to buy in Canada.

I checked their (autopartsonlinecanada.com) prices as well and they didn't seem all that cheap (actually some of the list prices they quote seem a little high, a quick check with the dealer may be a good idea ). Try Precision Auto, or even Luxury European (they may still have some used parts although they sell mostly new parts now). See if they offer a better deal.

No not kidding.... 124 voltage regulator
Bosch
Canadianautopartsonline $39.90 Cdn
Altrom (local supplier) $83.40 Cdn
Local MB dealer $84.78 Cdn
Fastlane $33.93 US
But Altrom's Bosch spark plugs are $1 cheaper , it pays to shop around.

I'm rather baffled by this remark as the outfit I recommended works regularly on bimmers and merc's, and is recommended by Louis Forli and McNally Auto. I don't think their location has much to do with the quality of their work. There are several mechanical shops in the area that are certainly not suited to work on a Benz!

I second that... most parts is cheaper than dealer, i have account on both places. Rarely autopartsonline is higher, unless something they are not the original import/wholeseller. Like brakes, suspension, bulbs...etc there are cheaper selling out there.

But for AC blower motor let say, made by bosch, is much cheaper than dealer. Dealer, you also have to buy the cage hey.

I have a pair in my garage that I purchased (but never used) for my W126. It was a 300SDL but I believe all of the front rotors are the same.

They are a year old so have some surface corrosion, but it can be cleaned off. They're brand new and I'm in Oakville.

Email me if interested.. neal@bhattmail.net

I find the vendors on ebay (canada of course) sells the cheapest brake parts. most of them are brembos, but cheaper than both dealer and the online store mention above.

But none of the places have real MB pads, which last much longer than these aftermarket.

MB shop in Ottawa

I'll have my 300sd in Ottawa for a while in a week or two - can anyone recommend a shop that understands mid 1980's Mercedes diesels in the Ottawa area? Just in case disaster strikes....

Thanks!
