80 or 85. Stupid 3.69 rear, it sounds pained at those speeds.

We've pegged 5200rpm on both SD's pretty easily....so about 112-113mph, maybe faster once for me since I did it on a big down hill stretch, I was flying!

Our minivan has hit 120 before! (downhill, with a tailwind, but it did it) normally it can just barely creep to 110mph on flat ground...takes forever though, way longer than the diesels.

Turbo's SHOT. It'll take forever to break 100 - far longer than I'm willing to go.

My 83 4spd NA euro did close to 110 on 14" stock rims. I'm on 16" r55 now and am not sure what the ratio difference is. I'd imagine I can get over the 110 mark now. Unfortunately the only way to find out for sure would involve a radar/laser gun.

Once I get the front end rebuilt I might find a lock track.....

fast enough...for now

When I first test drove the car 4 months ago, without any repair work (driveshaft bearing, valves, front end bushings, etc) I had it up to 95 ish. It still had more but I didnt feel like breaking it at that speed, especially with the previous owner in the car...and the front end shaking so violently. The trail of black smoke was awesome. The car hadnt been blown open like that ever, probably as 70 year old women dont drive that fast normally.
That was on 95 North around Medford, Ma. There were lots of cops but lots of other cars going 95, too.

So if there is a limiting final drive at 3.69, what is the solution to better highway speed driving? A longer 4th gear? 3.25 or so or should I start looking for a manual 5 speed? (do they even exist for this car?)

In my 80 SD What ratio am I likely to have? are ring/pinions interchangable between most models?

I would like to achieve a slightly lower crusing RPM. Increase my highway MPG a little.

Had my 81 sd up to at least 120-130mph, based on GPS, was going down a BIG hill...

Things can get pretty hot in the EGT department at those speeds. Be careful.

That was pretty much a 1-time thing. Just got the car, had an empty interstate, a big hill, and 30-40 miles to get it to accelerate up that high..
