No, it did not bounce, only slight vibration

It was -15°F this morning on my drive in. It was a little tough getting started even though I left the heater plugged in all night. Belched really thick black smoke for the first minute. But once the benz got warmed up it seemed to have more than the normal # of horses. Could be imagined or it could be due to denser air entering the turbo.

When it gets really cold the shocks get real stiff and the tires lose pressure resulting in lots more road sounds.

Its 5° F out here right now, and my car started on 4 cranks with a 30 second glow after being off about 8 hours in a parking lot. As for the feel of the car, mine is noticeably different, it rattles a lot more, panels vibrate, and the engine has a noticeable boost in power, generally only when its this cold out though, it just sounds like its liking it, it growls more when I give it the pedal The shocks and stuff also feel stiffer, bumps are harder, and so on, its just stiff....its so cold!! Walking a few blocks on campus at school this morning was horrible.

That bloody cold - 54 F!!!

This morning was -23 C and after having the block heater on for 3hrs, the car started on normal glow plugs cycle and it was smooth. I know its a newer diesel but it still makes me happy that it can start no problemo.

Last time it was -23C I did not plug it in and it started good too, but I dont want to stress the engine/starter etc if I dont need to.

I have the exact same symptoms with my '97 E300. In addition there is this wierd whine or squel that it totally spradic and it sounds like it comes from underneath the rear seat. My dad was actually complaining of that today in his '99 E300...

Anyone know what that is?

I hate driving the 240d in the cold, it doesn't like to start or run or not smoke or not shake. I had it in california over break, it would start fine in the middle of the night when it got down into the high 30's no problem, but here in CO it hates me, it's like "ok boss, I'll start but you gotta plug me in and give me hell" I really hope I get a job outside of a high elevation cold state after I graduate.

Blue shifts better with a cold transmission. About 5F on the way home tonight, nice crisp shifts, no flaring, no thunks, no tire chirping, . Deep freeze, bring it on!

Yep....big time difference

When the temps are sub-freezing, my lips stick to the metal when I kiss her goodmorning!!

Thanks goodness I have my coffee with me!

The fluid in the mounts is stiffer when cold, may even chrystalize. Should smooth out when it warms up some.

12F isn't cold, -38 F is! When I lived in Canada, my trusty (rusty) Dodge Aires fired up first try, every time, for three years running, even when on the week or so in Feb when the pre-dawn temps were -35 or colder. Diesels up there (a colleague had a W123 240D) only started if garaged at that temp.
