I forgot
what that thing on my valve cover is called! I know it has a cam and vacuum hoses etc..... Anyway, where do I get a new one? I took the cover off for the first time today- my sig. indicates when I got it. I had to quickly put it(the cover) back on because the light breeze was blowing whats left away I was like "OMG". So I am looking for a good one with new flippers(?) and the little bent hoses. I did carefully remove one of the hoses and found the part it was attatched to had mostly broken off inside the hose. It's late and this probly isn't making sense............

On your vehicle, all those flippers and little hoses serve no purpose other than to run the EGR. So, you don't need to purchase any new parts. In fact, you can disconnect all the hoses to the black box and toss them out..........plug the ports that they start from........and clean up the engine compartment. |

I thought
that it had something to do with the tranny shifting. I wonder where I got that from? I guess I won't worry about it disintegrating just by looking at it! I will disconnect it and plug all that was going to it. Thanks for the piece of mind. I figured I had deftly destroyed something vital with my curiosity Hmmmmm, then why does my tranny shift so hard? It doesn't really bother me but it seems that I shouldn't have to feather the accelerator pedal to up-shift. I don't have to every time but some from 1-2 and more often for the 2-3 and almost never for 3-4. This doesn't seem to be killing it though. I would imagine things have been this way for quite a while, before I got her.

If you remove all the lines to the black box.........follow them to where they enter a T (2 of them).........remove the T.........and connect the remaining two lines with a short piece of hose..........you might find that the harsh shifts are eliminated. The harsh shifts are caused by a loss of vacuum to the modulator. Either a leak or a bad vacuum control valve is your problem. |
