Congratulations. With that much salt on the car, I'm surprised it's lasted that long. Has it had any body work?

I have always enjoyed the salt streaks too. It shows the path the air takes as it flows around the car.

I have always appreciated the smooth shape of the 126 body.

Congratulations on the achievment in a "rod bender".....kindof puts the lie to it too.

When people say that "they don't make them like they used to," I tend to believe them, especially when I'm driving this beast around. I drove my mom's 2000 e320 wagon this past week out to CO and back and I will contend that it does drive like a Chrysler (but I'm not going to go there in this post )

Thanks for the nice feedback!

oldsouth has a '95 S350 with over 350,000 miles, and the engine is original:

Maybe these engines aren't so bad after all?

You've got over 500,000 on your '91 350SD, I've got 512,000 on my '91 350SD. We're probably in the top five of the highest mileage vehicles on this forum. Isn't it ironic, you so much as mention any 350SD or 350SDL and you see an immediate negative response, rod bender, worst diesel engine ever made by Mercedes, Mercedes loses class action lawsuit, response, and here we are with a couple 500,000 mile vehicles! Not that I'm disputing, any of the claims against the 350 engine. I am not! I just think it ironic, if not funny that the most maligned engine in Mercedes Benz history has two of them making it to 500,000 mile mark.

It's because you drive nice.
Try jack-rabbit starting it, followed by hard downshifts and those rods should bend for you so you can be like everyone else

You could probably mention the Mercedes rod bender, Chevy Vega's all aluminum engine and the early Mazda rotary engines in the same sentence. They were all notoriously short lived engines due to poor engineering. GM's 5.7L diesel engines were probably better engines than the rod bender.

I think I'm going to hold off on badges until I can get 1,000,000 the mile badge.

Some of us are more fortunate than others....

The engine's been replaced twice in mine, and the mileage is just shy of 300K. I'll get to 500K with the 3.0 liter, no problem.

At least you only had the engine done once....But it was still done....

Oldsouth's S350, still has a problem burning oil, last I heard. I think he was also the one who found a way to cork the EGR while tricking the computer to allow full boost.

Don't know what the problem is with these things. And we likely never will.
