Engine mounts/shocks next.. need suggestion

The next job I have lined up in August is to cure the engine shakes. I know for sure the mounts need replaced since they simply look gnarly and the PO of 12 years never touched them- plus a good couple of weeks of dripping fuel dripping from the old primer pump last year, heh.

Now what I'm wondering is, do the shock mounts/bushings typically need done as well? If this is something able to be left alone it would save me a good $120. If I were to do everything on my mind- mounts, shocks, shock mounts/bushings, heat shields, plus paying my friend for use of his tools and equipment I'm looking at $400 for this project ... Not so doable for someone who has a hospital, 2 doctor's offices and the IRS yelling at me for thousands of dollars.

But hey, if I didn't have a car they would for sure not see a nickel because I couldn't get to work!

Or is it acceptable to do all this over a period of time? Mounts and heat shields this check, shocks the next, etc.

Just wondering,
Geoff

Engine shock mounts usually do not need to be replaced unless they are broken.

If the mounts and engine shocks have not been touched in 12 years, replace the mounts, tranny included, engine shocks and the shock bushings.

$400 is a bit much, considering the cost of the parts. $45 total for engine mounts, $90 for shocks, $40 for shock bushings and $20 for a tranny mount. You only need a few tools to do this. So about $200 total for all parts. $200 seems a bit much for tool usage.

Pay your friend with a case of beer or a steak dinner. $25-40.

Does that engine shock mount kit come with all the stuff for both sides or just one? I ask because they're about $60- that's what I was saying hopefully could be overlooked because if I did need 2 that's $120 just like that.

And actually he used to accept beer as payment, but he's got a kid on the way now. I'm not paying him no $200 though

If you don't need the shock mounts, you can get the bushings (you need 4 total) for about $4 each and just use the existing nuts and washers.
