I think the whole tour takes less than 2 hours (both buildings). I would be a shame to just see the car museum, and not the other stuff (including the other cars).

Well I would love to make this, however I don't think our 16V will be ready.

Come along anyway. I'm sure you have a friend or Friends with a Mercedes. If not not come along and ride with one of us. I know there'll be room in my car.

Rollguy,
I'll call back monday and make a reservation for The Collection also. I agree why not see it all.

Sounds good, I'll be bringing grandpa's '82 300d. My little '78 toy will have to stay home (tranny took a poo). Oh well, his is far more classic than mine. I don't have any WVO, but I've got basically a limitless supply of WMO.

Im glad that we wont be meeting any where near downtown newhall. However, the cheapest diesel I know of is at the chevron on san fernando & sierra highway, currently $1.93. And they have truck pumps so you can fill your tank in less than 20 seconds.

ER.. wouldn't that be NewHall Rd and Sierra Hwy...NOW that the powers that be changed the name of the road on the freeway exit...GRRRRR! It's been San Fernando Rd. for eons, now it's not.
A sad death.

Just bring a container of new Veggie oil. that what Colin is using in Ol' Norm.

What happens if too many Cubies of oil are collected (20 or more)? Can his car carry that much along with everything else he needs? I know my brother and I will probably bring 2 each. We have a good supply of NEW Soy oil.

I doubt that we'll gather too much Veggie Oil. I was thinking Quart or so containers. I'll ask him and see what he can carry. I know he is gathering and cleaning and whatever at his stops.
He has a 300TD wagon, with roof racks, but that is a really good question.

^I'll try to have Norm as "empty" as possible, but I can take about 65 gallons on empty tanks, and I still have a lot of room for cubies. Probably 8 or 10 will fit in the back.

It'll be close to Norm's weight limits of 1050, and he's already sitting a little low with the 400ish pounds in him right now, but I'll still be under.

Thanks again guys, this is really awesome! I'm definitely looking forward to all of this in the next few weeks!

This is what I'm talking about. 30 gallons in the back, sitting kinda low. It sits fine when empty!

On second though, I can take 65 gallons total in an effort to not overload Norm. That equals 13 cubies, and maybe one more for the drive that day.

Norm's SLS pump may be not functioning; it should be level at that weight. Was the car running when you took that picture?

Norm was able to rise to near level with this load... Far more than 400 pounds I estimate.

No, wasn't running then. I'll get some before and after shots tomorrow when I warm him up in the morning. However, I don't think he's picking up at all past that height.

I'll double check. Sweet, more to go wrong!

Don't worry about it. You just don't want those accumulators to wear out, and drop the car so low its almost undriveable. It needs to be figured out before it becomes a problem.

SoCAL GTG April 4th 2009 Sylmar CA.

What: GTG and New, Old, Classic, Antique, Diesel, Gasser, Drive to the Casa Gutierrez in Leona Valley for Lunch up a scenic canyon and back down another scenic canyon to, it time permits, a local JY.

When: April 4, 2009, 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Where: Nethercutt Auto Museum

Map: The Nethercutt Collection Map

We will do a Nethercutt Auto Museum tour at 10:00 A.M. Followed by the canyon drive to Leona Valley.
Lunch will be at Casa Gutierrez, Mexican and Seafood Restaurant in Leona Valley. The owner has graciously given us the banquet room up stairs, and he'll clear the parking lot for us if I call ahead so we can stage our cars in front and around the place. They aren't too busy on Sat afternoons. They have good steaks and Seafood there as well as some American food.

The Meet and greet will take place at the Nethercutt Auto Museum parking lot a short distance from I-5. We will do a tour at 10:00 A.M. then take the 5 to the 14 north to Sand Canyon Exit, left to Sierra Hwy, Right to Vasquez Canyon to Bouquet Canyon. Right 20-25 miles to Elizabeth Lake Rd. Left 2 1/2 miles to Casa Gutierrez in Leona Valley.

We will do lunch, have the raffle drawing and do the door prizes and have the swap/sell/buy parts there. When finished we will continue on Elizabeth Lake Rd. to San Fransquito Canyon back to the Valencia area. This canyon comes out on Copper Hill Rd, Right to Newhall Ranch Rd., Right to I-5, Then if there is time we can go to a local JY. I would suggest full fuel tanks just to be safe.

Remember this GTG is for Colin Coon and Ol' Norm and please bring a container of either cleaned used Veggie oil or new or a small donation for Colin. The raffle proceeds will be given in the entirety to Colin to help him on his way home.

For those that don't know. Colin has converted Ol Norm, a 300TD to use WVO and is making a sort of One lap around America. The conversion and the trip is his senior project in high school. Colin wants to become an alternative fuels engineer.
He'll be our guest. If you Google Colin's Green Machine you can find his website and daily blog. As of yesterday he is in Dayton Ohio, having driven from Sarasota Fl. through Washington D.C. on his way here to CA. from CA he will be returning to Sarasota Fl.

I'm working on an email invitation flyer for folks to print out. I will have maps available on the day of the GTG and drive.

All Mb's are welcome.

Everyone welcome.

Here is the Last combined(other forums) attendee list.
if there are any changes or others that want to attend, please sign up here.

There was interest in seeing the Collection in the 2 story building. Unfortunately, there are only two tours on Saturdays, one at 10:00 A.M. and the other at 1:30 P.M. Both are fully booked and they cannot accommodate us for that part of the museum. The Auto Museum is not a reserved basis and we will be able to tour the museum at our leisure.
