Injection Problem on M603 Motor

I installed a known working injection pump at 15 degrees after top dead center. Old pump was removed at 15 degrees after top dead center. New one was installed at 15 degrees after top dead center. I now am only getting fuel to #5 and #6 on injection pump. Any ideas on what to try or what may be the problem.

Thanks.

You need to be more elaborate about the method you used to establish the timing for the injection pump. Did you ensure that the #1 cam lobes were pointing up and that the IP timer pointer was perfectly centered in the inspection hole?

No matter what the timing you should still get fuel from every element.

How much have you primed it? You will need to crank it for quite a while with the hard lines installed but loose on the injector end.

i read somewhere on a diesel forum (not mercedes) that i should remove the glow plugs and just crank the motor. less compression will allow pistons to move faster. car will crank at about 5000 rpms. Any thoughts?

The engine can barely rev to 5000 on it's own. The starter will be lucky to hit 500 rpm.

Are you asking about bleeding the injector lines? If so, no need to remove the glow plugs. This injection pump will self bleed with about a minute of cranking. Or crack the injector lines and tighten the ones that leak fuel as you crank.

If it's cranking fast enough to start the engine, it's cranking fast enough to self-bleed. I don't like the FSM method because of wear on the battery but the FSM method is to crank continuously for a minute with pedal to the floor. If that doesn't do it, wait 5-10 minutes to cool the starter then try again. I prefer to crack the lines.

Did you do anything else to the "new" pump before installing it? Did you change the delivery valve seals?

Timing was correct, pointer centered on both pumps and cam lobes up.
Engine has been cranked for a much as seven minutes in 20-30 second
durations with injector lines loose at head. Only injectors 4 & 5 getting
fuel.
