Highest mileage diesel you've bought.

I tried to "Search" for this and can't get the right combo of words.
What is the highest mileage MB diesel you've bought? If it was properly maintained, is there still a mileage point you would not buy it?
I'm doing probably too much research, but I don't want to make a mistake with this one.

My '83 had 293,509 miles when I bought it. I don't have any set limit for mileage on a prospective vehicle. It all comes down to the combination of condition and price. If it runs good and it's cheap enough, I'll buy it even if it's over a half million.

Our '96 E300D (W210, OM606) had 248,000 miles when we bought it 2 years ago but the complete set of service records from the three POs convinced me that it had been well taken care of.

My 78 240 had 363,000 when I bought it a year ago. No maintenance records. Had been sitting mostly unused for two years. Oh yes, I live dangerously. Buying that car was kind of my personal version of skydiving ... gotta do something crazy every once in a while, right?
Actually, considering the gamble I took, it hasn't been so bad. The car runs and drives pretty much fine, and even though it's caused me a lot of grief, if I look back on the things I've learned to do because of it, it wasn't a waste of money at all.

That said, I probably wouldn't have bought it if I were looking for a really reliable daily driver. I bought it as a project. If you're looking for a project, I wouldn't be scared off by 500,000 miles ... assuming you're not paying much and you're prepared (or even eager) to deal with whatever might be ready to crap out.

I bought my W124 300D with just a tick under 240K miles on the clock. It came with a stack of maintenance records and I'm also a first time MB diesel owner

Things that have gone wrong in 3 months / 2K miles of ownership:

- Belts and pulley tensioner

That's it, honestly! The car starts / runs / drives as good as any car I've ever owned (I've lost count). I'm hoping to get over 300K miles without any major engine / tranny work.

I bought my wife's 300SD last Spring with 310K showing and no idea how long the odometer had been non-functional. It has been a great car. Although there were no records on it, it was easy to see that it had been well maintained. I plan to fix the odometer pretty soon, just to see how far this thing will go. We've not ventured more than 150 miles from home in it yet, but I feel that it would take me anywhere and back. Uses about a quart of oil every change (which is probably about 3K miles).

Most milage was UPS with 329k on it. Second is Bruiser with 318k. Mmm, I think the 126 I had had over 300 too. Heck, if they run halfway decent, I'm all over them.

My SD has 240 showing & probably another 40k on it. The highest mileage vehicle I've owned was a 1993 F250 4x4 straight shift with a Windsor engine. Sold it for $4,000 cash with 293,000 on the clock. It was great...banged up enough to have character & be able to work but still looked good. I only look at price & condition when buying one of my cult (quirky enough that you gotta love them to bother with it) cars. Only sold it because my new born couldn't fit in the front seat.

301,000 miles, 1987 300sdl. Every part looked orginal, except the timing chain and accessory belt. No records. Three previous owners, each had it six years/100,000 miles according to carfax.

I picked up my 240D with 258k miles on it in 2006. It now has 298k and still drives great. I had no records and a broken odometer. It's been a great car and only left me stranded once, with a dead alternator. I all depends on how well it was taken care of.

I bought this with 403,000 Km decent but not totally complete records. New head around 378,000 km due to rad hose breakage. Its my Wifes car has been great so far Purchased May 2009. Have about 417,000km on it now runs great the mileage didn't bother me!. Repairs swapped out a complete wiper assembly from a donar 420sel. the drivers window needs to be adjusted a bit as it clatters inside when closing. Smooth, starts fast and safe and thats why I bought it. My kids like the "springy seats" I have a thermostat that needs replacing as I get little heat from the heater and the engine does not heat up properly as per my heat gun?

240D with 247,000 only trouble was splines on transmission output shaft gave out, but that seems like a freak accident. It's not like that's a wear/maintainable item.

I bought my 300SD with 292,000 on it, and got it to 299,000 before it developed a knock that prompted me to buy another 300 SD with ~450,000 miles on the odometer.

That being said, the 450,000 car was a wreck but had a strong running engine that had supposedly been rebuilt 6,000 before the wreck.
