Removing W123 center console

I need to remove the center console in my 1985 300D. I have already:
  • Removed the wooden panel/switches around the gear selector
  • Removed the center console carpet insert
  • Removed the screw in the middle of the rear of the center console under the carpet insert
  • Removed the ash tray
  • Removed the two screws under the ash tray
  • Removed the climate control cover panel
  • Removed all of the screws around the climate control panel (climate controls are dangling)
So what remains? It all seems still pretty securely fastened. TIA.

Radio and connections?
Ashtray wires?
Carpet over the rear end? (maybe have to unbolt seat belt slider)

I found it helpful to remove one of the seats since the seat belt slider thing is sort of in the way, but I've got a Coupe.

Oh, yea, I have also removed the passenger-side:
  • seat
  • outboard carpet
  • front and rear floor carpets
All carpets are wet; found rust-thru the floor behind the cross member under the passenger seat and all along the wiring/vacuum line path under back seat floor. I am trying to get the console and all carpets out so I can inspect the metal front-to-back on the passenger side. I assume I have the front windshield/hood pocket/fender leak problem. I cannot find a clear concise DIY on that fix. If anyone knows of a link for that, let me know.

The two screws behind the wooden panel where the 4 switches are, as previously mentioned, and there are two screws that hold the carpet to the center hump way in the front.

Army just did a spring pocket repair and I did a floor replacement. Check in the bodywork section.

On my car you also need to remove the screws that hold the seat belt guide bit that runs along the side of the front seats. You can then lift the rear part of the centre console up (so the bit between the front seats) and as long as you've got the 2 screws out of the foot wells you should be able to feel if you've missed something else!

If you're not clear about my pocket springs contribution I've got a whole load of photos that I can add to the thread to make it clearer - I haven't spent too much time on that one - sorry.

Yea, nobody mentioned those screws in the footwells. Its a pain that you have to pull all that carpet to get the console out. I got it out today. Now I need to pull all the padding, etc out of the passenger side. I'm pretty bummed; I have found quite a bit of rust in the rear floorboard. I'm not a welder. Anybody in the Houston area want to take a look?

I would love to see pictures of how to do this. I have read a bit about it, but I don't seem to understand the structure of what is going on there.
