				SD front seal

I have to do a front seal re & re along with the seal race.

The FSM lists a special race puller. What can I get away with to pull the race. Thanks front seal experts.

The fit of the spacer is fairly loose. I have been able to pull them with two, small flat screwdrivers, prying simultaneously 180 degrees apart. Prying with one screwdriver doesn't work well; the spacer needs to come off straight. A good dose of penetrating oil would be a good idea, also.

Unlike tangofox007 I had no way of removing the spacer on my OM617 that easily. I hope it works for you that way though.

I ended up replacing the front crankshaft seal with the old spacer still in there. The seal leaked after about 100 miles. As I had other engine troubles I ended up rebuilding the whole engine (long story) - but - to remove the original spacer on my crank I had to drill into the spacer to allow me to chisel the bloody thing off (crank removed from engine). I hope you don't need that kind of effort.

I thought I would press the new seal into place first then press the seal race in after so not to destroy the seal lip. Is that a good plan?

Take a look at the wiki DIY pages:- http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/OM617CrankshaftSeal EDIT:- Tangofox007 is too quick off the draw - same thread - different way of getting there!
