Today I went out and worked with john. He had it running smoothly already. He sorted the vac shutoff. There are still a few more things to sort. it is not noisy at idle with a straight pipe, but the car vibrates a lot more than a benz!

Not this time. John Banes runs my favorite Indy shop. He has skills which rival VS but probably is not as knowledgeable about MB in particular as VS is.

He's a very good diagnostic, hard working and very honest. I've been taking my cars there probably at least 30 years. Since John was in high school and his father ran the shop.

When I find someone trustworthy and skilled I tend to stick with them.

Makes plenty of sense to me.

Although I do tons of stuff myself in my well-equipped shop, I do have a great shop right down the street run by my buddy Dave. Good work at a fair price. For example, he can do our oil changes for less than I can buy the stuff for (they get filters at a great price and buy oil in bulk). Dave also has a beautiful replica '67 Nova Pro-Mod car and I've been to the track with him from time to time. That's great fun!

Anyhow, I can appreciate the value of a good independent shop that you can count on.

I still do easy stuff and most of the work on my Lotus replica race car. The studebaker is such a big project it is mostly beyond my skills anyhow. Once complete and sorted I'll do routine stuff on it.

Does anybody have a source for a new accelerator linkage pivot?

It normally is hidden under the mats. It sits about 6 or 7" to the right of the accelerator pedal and is sort of a bearing block for a rod to turn in when you push the pedal.

The motion is transmitted through the firewall at that point to the rods under the hood which go up to the injection pump, etc.

On my 39 studebaker we lengthened the shaft and it is causing the pivot block to flex....preventing us from getting full throttle movement on the pump. I'll want to either change it for a new one or duplicate it in aluminum possibly.

Tom - Can you post a pic? I have several ideas but I'm not positive I'm following your description.

Cool! Yes that is the part. Michael lengthened the straight section at the upper end of the picture here and the extra leverage is flexing the white plastic bearing. Is the white plastic a u shape with a section of just white plastic spacer? on the bearing shaft?

As I look at that it wouldn't be very difficult to replace the plastic bearings with a couple of appropriately sized pillow blocks. Weld a couple of pieces of flat stock to act as a mount and install the pillow blocks.

Maybe something like this: (if they'll let me post the link) https://www.thebigbearingstore.com/5-8-pressed-steel-pillow-block-bearing-sbsp202-10/

How is the pedal arm removed from the plastic?

I'm thinking BFH! Or there has to be some kind of snap ring holding the plastic dealies on there. I can't see it clearly in the posted pics.
