Here is a descriptive diagram. One heater hose comes out of the water pump, as Rollguy said, and the other is on the driver's side toward the back.

I stand corrected, #12 is the heater valve.

Cool!

Thanks guys! So I won't require the heater auxiliary pump?

I found the little spring clips for the headlight reflectors. did I say how much the car is starting to look ready to drive?

Woo hoo!

I need a new fuel gauge. Will any old 12 v. gauge work with the Mercedes tank unit?

Pretty sure there's an ohm range for any fuel gauge. Sender and gauge have to match. I'm sure one of the genius' on here knows the ohm rating on the stock MB sender.

There are several ohm ranges for fuel senders. The common GM sender is backwards to Mercedes, but has a similar ohm range. GM is 0 empty and 90 ohms full. I can't remember exactly, but the Mercedes is something like 72 empty and 10 full. Fords and others have different ranges for senders. Gauge must match sender.

Check out Summit or Speedway for gauge and sender ranges. As I recall, none match Mercedes.

If it were me I'd just add fuel level to my Android/Arduino gauge display by reading the resistance and display in gallons - but that's not a solution for your project. Check Aircraft Spruce or Wickes for gauge solutions for homebuilt aircraft. You may need to use a different sender but they're pretty adaptable.

Most gauge manufacturers make a variety of aftermarket gauges with different ohm ratings. You just need to find the output of your tank level sender and find a gauge to match it.

That's simple, right?

Simple in theory, but in practice the choice of gauges is very limited. Autometer has some and there are a few other brands.

Or one can rig up a resistor to make the gauge read right.

Old ford fuel gauges comes closest to MB, but who wants a Ford gauge in a Mercedes?

Tanksinc has a list of ohm ranges at

It might be possible to use the Ford gauge movement with the existing gauge face - a lot depends on the angular sweep of the gauge E to F.

For example, I used the tach movement from the 617 in the 107 when I did the swap. In this case markings on the gauge face was off, so I epoxied the 617 gauge face over the top of the 107 one. You might be able to photoshop a new gauge face if the gauge is close and change the needle position. Fine tuning might be possible by stretching the spring - it's done on speedometers from time to time.

Tom - we recently bought several VDO gages for the Volvo which put me to perusing their online catalog. They have fuel senders in a number of ohm ratings. If you're not sure I'd go to their web site and either Email them or phone them (my preference). I'm sure they'd help you out.
