There is a guy on the Studebaker forum who has hot rodded a Packard v8 though (Friggin wild man!). Most of the guys over there running the older v8s tend toward blown Studies.

Most of the street rodded Studes run Chebby mouse motors. I used to hate Chebbys in old cars but now having rebuilt a few oddballs the chebbys make a ton of sense and I feel more tolerant of them.....not tolerant enough to put one in my truck though
SBC's fell out of favor with me some years back - the only engine rebuild I ever did that failed - repeatedly. Still don't know exactly what went wrong but I built it out of a parts pile and I'm wondering if there was something wrong with the distributor that allowed the oil not to get al the way to the bottom end even though it showed oil pressure.

But to me the big thing is that they're belly buttons - everybody has one (or more). I like the weird stuff. My V8 Vega had a Buick 215, my big Chevy pickup had a 455 Buick, my S-10 has a Mercedes Diesel, etc. When I open the hood on my special project vehicles I want to see something special.

Dan

I'm heading down to cambridge city Friday to pick up my bumper. I'm gonna give them another bumper to do and my air cleaner housing.

Today I drove down to Cambridge city to CMF to pick up my rechromed bumper. Its the one that came on the truck and has that groove in the center of it. I believe it was blue on my truck. Was there a standard color or were they different colors?

I left another bumper there and my tailgate chains and hooks to be redone. I decided against leaving the air cleaner housing. I won't be done soon enough to avoid hampering my driving the CE.

I can't wait to get it installed!

Wooo hoo!

Thanks Greazzer!

You just have to keep writing checks! Letting it take four years made it the easy payment plan.....well almost.

I'm not done yet though. I still have to do the interior.

Its alright though I still have checks left.

Your 123 project is very very impressive in its many bold and innovative modifications. It is better than mine in many ways.

Today I bought new wheels for it. I got the traditional AR five spokes with the spokes flat gray like as if they are magnesium. This was what all the tough dragsters used in the sixties. I've always wanted some.

We need a new emoji - this post is useless without a picture of those wheels on your truck!

Same width all around or are going for a gasser look?

I tried to upload the pics but my computer at the office refuses. Of course you cannot see them on the car yet. I just ordered them!

But your pic is them but mine won't have the baby blue paint, they'll be the original butch looking bare magnesium (not magnesium really)....simulated magnesium?

Thanks Sixto for getting in the spirit of the moment!

Two of them came yesterday, the other two are on backorder. Then I looked at the wheel, now mind you it is an American Racing wheel.....made in China! I guess that's why it was so cheap.

did you end up resolving the throttle issue? I may have missed a few update posts on that, sorry if this is redundant! I built a valve cover bracket that included the mercedes firewall mounted throttle spring which is needed for appropriate throttle control along with the small one under the injection pump. I did not notice one on your engine pic a few pages ago unless they mounted the big spring somewhere else.

Truck looks amazing

EDIT- ha not the problem. looks like it was an alternate issue discussed in the page 70s of the thread.

time for an index

Thanks very much JB! With my Hip and Knee replacements this winter I have been slowed a bit. I am hoping to get a lot of things done so I can cruise up to South Bend for the international meet the 5-7 of May (or so).

Door trim, hood badges (MB and Studebaker) Wheels, throttle linkage, and steering issues...also possibly remove a leaf or two from the rear springs.
