Just talked to John my INdie. He says he got the accelerator working fine now. The linkage was hitting something on the back of the head apparently. The new torque thrusts were hitting the calipers in back too so he ground off the corners. I'll go test drive shortly.

Wooo HOooooo!

Maybe I'll get brave enough to drive it to South Bend this week for the international Studebaker gathering!

Sometimes things don't need to be re-engineered, just adjusted...nice work.

....and let's hope so!

Great to hear that the start-up teething issues are getting resolved. A bit here, a bit there and it'll be ready to rock!

What did you work out on the driveshaft issue?

Please keep us posted on the South Bend trip - should be a great adventure.

Dan

Got it up to 80. No sweat, plenty of power.

A ton of wind noise with no door seals. Feels pretty decent. Decent ride and steering, excellent brakes. Dead spot in center of steering. Ford rack characteristic?

The bolts in the rubber donut in the driveshaft were bent and partially out of place. apparently left loose when we did the flywheel.

I HATE it when my donut bolts are loose! (BTW, I have a bunch of those bolts if you need 'em.) Did you tighten the donuts on the dobolts? Maybe more icing as thread locker?

(Sometimes I give myself a chuckle.....)

Getting really nice. Overall seems to sit decently as well.

I do not know about your rack. We did buy a few cars for resale and I did give the wife a very low milage focus to drive. It felt to me like they designed the steering to feel like a heavier car. So that may be the sensation you are feeling. I did not mind it. Heavier and less agile in the middle area I would consider a not unusual description with no play.

If there was anything I liked about ford focuses and their reputation at that time. This would have been about it. Just test drive a ford focus to see if I am right. I suspect they would not have changed that feature over the years.

Thanks Barry!

I recently drove a ford ranger with over 200K on it and my brand new rack has the same amount of play. Blick! Its 2.5 turns lock to lock though and my Nardi wheel is not very large. But an inch of play on center is poor...

What kind of bushings is the rack mounted with. Ive seen racks move when softer bushings are used.

Stock Ford I imagine. This does not feel like overly compliant bushings though. It is clearly free play and once it is engaged it is nice and firm feeling.
