Time for some EZ Peezy stuff

Installed my refurbished battery tray. Overall, probably a poor use of time since a brand new one from MB is around $60.00. Between bead blasting, paint, et cet., but it's done.

AND, mocked up my 60 plate HE and homemade fittings. Seems at least this will fit without a bunch of R&D. Battery behind the back seat is also working out better than thought.

Now, on the prowl for some material to make an insulated cover. I had this really nice helicopter engine blanket or at least a panel of it, but that's apparently gone ... lol .. and I have not seen any lately at the surplus auctions or FleaBay. Any ideas ? I want something which can be sewn with a zipper vs. the stick on stuff.

W123 Attention Deficit

Instead of focusing on my red leather interior, I got a little side tracked. Got this premo item: 2:65 LSD from a W116 (M100 6.9). Total Luck and Timing, got it while in Fort Wayne, IND last week. Very heavy sucker, e.g., 89 pounds. I will post some pics of the re-fresh of seals, et cet, as well as axles, et cet.

Those RED leather seat covers look impressive; however, it seems to be the wrong shade of red for my car. Did you have that matched to your existing interior or are you doing a color swap?

I don't think so, but who knows ... shaving weight, shaving parasitic drag off the engine, maybe some resistence lessened somehow ... but the chin, hmmm

It looks cool, who cares .

Just a question out of curiosity -- what is your ultimate goal with this project? Fuel economy? Power? Both?

My original goal was a pretty fast, durable, mod'd simple machine which is a true hybrid, that is, burned #2 and WVO, or any combination of the two. That "goal" started off circa 2008 with my first MB, 1985 300D Cali Car. That car got totaled. Then, I went thru a few lemons before I got my current DD which is now lemonade ... lol.

I currently have most of the parts for the goal, just a few missing pieces. Now, however, the car is being "restored" and prettied-up, which was not the original goal.

Yes, my bad. HE = Heat Exchanger. Burning WVO, IMO, requires pre-heating the grease. This permits at least one full quart to be elevated to 175F-ish at any given time. There is some lost heat from the coolant. That sized HE can handle up to 300K BTUs, so it is "over-sized" for the job since a gallon of #2 or WVO does not even have 200K BTUs in it, but this was the only size to meet my performance objectives.

What is your performance objective? Surely not consuming fuel at the rate of a tug boat. 60 plate HE is way overkill, a 20 plate or even 16 will do. Locating it at the battery tray is the worst possible spot in the engine compartment, by the time the WVO makes it diagonally across to the IP, it will have cooled off a little. The HE should be as close to the IP as possible. The battery should be as close to the starter motor as possible- the trunk is furthest from the starter motor, not to mention the voltage drop with a long + 12V wire run and danger of shorts/ fire. Sorry, makes no sense to me.

Aha! That's why it looks a bit odd for a battery. I suppose you have detailed this in a section I have forgotten or skimmed over. The battery in the trunk then?
