Today, here in upper LH corner of US and Soviet of Oregon, our little farm town Exon has Diesel $1.49 and Premium $1.49, they are adjacent on sign, didn't notice price for regular and plus. My 1st fill-up in quite a while.

Correction $2.49 and $2.49 per for each. Just a wishful typo I guess

I was going to post when diesel is twice the price as RUG. Currently $2.29 to $1.29 here.

First time in my life that diesel fuel is cheaper in my area of eastern Canada. Than it is where you are. Our dollar currently is worth another thirty percent less as well into the bargain. It does not make a lot of sense really.

Our fuel 77 cents Canadian a liter. Or 2.92 an American gallon. Normally it is around 5.00 Canadian for an American gallon.

I am considering filling up a few five gallon fuel containers as diesel fuel stores so well. Unlike gasoline. The diesel car tanks are full of course.

I've seen diesel for as low as $1.79/gal in the Houston area. Still not as low as the lowest price I've seen for 87 octane gasoline ($1.49/gal). I haven't seen it that low in years!

Talking You Missed It

Back in the 1960's gasoline was as low as .27 cents the gallon .

In the 1980's when Diesel powered vehicles took off, Diesel fuel was .50 cents the gallon, about 1/2 of the price for R.U.G. .

Possibly in the early 90s. I used to top up at an indian reserve in America for .75C an American gallon. Those were the days I could go a thousand miles for around 15-20 dollars and still have some fuel left in the tank.

Barry - Conversion of 77c Canadian per litre to US$/USgal would make it US$2.02/gal.

You are right that that is/was about C$2.92/gal but that would not mean much to our friends South of Border

This site makes conversion easier: https://www.mississauga4sale.com/Gasoline-Conversion-Calculator-litres-gallons-us.htm#LtoGal

Here in Kingston, Ontario, Regular is about 77.9c/L (US$2.09/gal) and diesel 96.4c/L (US$2.59/gal) (with our $ at 0.709)

Mileage on our 2019 Subaru Outback and 85 300D about the same! Used to be cheaper to drive a diesel in Canada,

I can still remember paying about 90 cents a gallon back in 2005ish for diesel. Could fuel my 300SD from empty to the brim for $17....crazyness.

I bought my 85 300D in mid 1990. Diesel at that time was just under C$0.50/litre ( about US$1.60/gal) Reg gas was about 15-16% more.

By 2005, reg gas was up to 91.6c/L and diesel 89.6c/L. Almost same at ~US$2.80/gal.

So cheaper now than 2005, but quite a bit higher than 1990. Not allowing for inflation!

BTW - If you wonder where these numbers come from, it is NOT from my 80 yr old memory

when i first started driving diesel cars in 2000, i was traveling between Albuquerque and Philadelphia in my 300 SD..... regular gas and diesel were within 1 cent of each other at around $1/gal. i remember watching the news in 2003 or so when they dumped that $.50/gal road use tax on diesel and were interviewing the truckers about how it would affect them.
i was calling around for heating oil (for my house) just now and the one place usually has cheap fuel prices....they were at $2.49 for on-road diesel (but also were $.42 higher per gallon for heating oil).....i haven't purchased motor fuel in 6 weeks or even been driving around to see what the price of gas is locally
