1992 300d turbodiesel-- worth considering?

300k miles, owner describes it as ugly green whatever that means but from the picture, it looks fine. It runs (he was going to meet me at a parking lot) and he is selling because he is downsizing.

i've offered $500 for it. At that price, even if the car turns out to be a dud, it won't hurt so much. I could junkyard it and get my money back at least.

he was asking $2300. i think I have a good shot at getting it at my price.

Here is a picture. what do you guys think?

Could be OK for $500, wouldn't pay more without a thorough inspection. 300K is about end of life for the transmission.

hard to say from the pic, but it's a good color combo at least.

$500 would be my max. If the car was parked under all those trees for any length of time, your going to find a lot more problems than "ugly green". I think your plan is a good one, and stick to your guns. Good luck!!

They still got called 300D, at least in the U.S.

It's pretty hard to go wrong for $500.

Wow, from $2,300 down to $500, that is a big jump. That is great for you if he goes with it, but I believe some sellers might be insulted with that offer. At $500, I would buy as many as I could get!

Agreed with the above! That color combo is very nice, the darker green with what looks like cream interior....if the body was solid and interior not trashed....I would plunk 500$ down right away! But it really is a big price drop.....if it has a really good maintenance history and it is clean....I could see 1500$ or so...

I'm at 260K now...Only problem with the trans that I have is it likes to fall to neutral when downshifting from 4th under 45mph or so

If it were anywhere near me, it would already be mine. My favorite engine and color combo.

There are some notable exceptions. Chris W on this forum as 400k on an original 722 tranny.
