I don't mind the street layout, in fact I like that it's very grid-like compared to Boston (Jesus that's a city to get lost in...). I just hate how I10 goes almost completely around the city. The roads use to be REALLY shot up with pot holes and bumps. They took some cash out of the coffers and repaved a bunch of roads with nice high quality asphalt. Now, the roads are enjoyable.

I'll look through it and see if the footage is worthy of posting...

It's amazing how cities get laid out.

Manhattan - pure grid
Brooklyn and the Bronx - complete maze
Chicago - grid to the extreme, some of the streets extend straight for 40+ miles well into the suburbs.

LA is a complete mixed up mess.

So is the DFW Metroplex. Let's build a perimeter around the city, except don't complete the circle on the northeast side. Then paste it together 20 years later with a toll road.

I think they hit a mirror with a hammer, put it back together, and said, that looks cool, let's use that for a street layout - that is Atlanta. And for good measure, call every third road Peachtree or some variant thereof.

Columbia Sc is kind of cool downtown. It's a grid for the most part, but with a twist. When the city was built, someone heard an urban legend that mosquitoes can't travel more than 100 yards. Many of the streets downtown (Main, Gervais, Assembly, Elmwood, Huger, Hampton) are 100 yards wide, which makes for easy driving. That is seriously wide for an urban street.

That is a great idea. I think I'll go for it. I have found several tires that I am interested in.

As for city layouts, Atlanta is definitely one of the worst. It was not planned well, many roads with similar names, some roads with the same name.

Or, increase throttle.....^^^ However, on a ramp, you had scant room or time to accomplish a maneuver such as you'd have on a racetrack, where you'd be expecting possible skids, and or have time/space to correct such.

Bottom-line? Don't drive at any speeds on wet surfaces where your outcomes from the wet pavement are totally unforeseen since the last time you scooted around that same ramp.

Yup. It barely had time to register with me that I needed to correct before I was in the ditch so to speak... I wasn't going fast, but I did climb under power, and I was trying to get up to speed for the merge, but I SHOULD have waited until I was straight before trying it...

My rear tires are worn, but still had plenty of tread across the entire surface of the tire. I must have just hit some oil... No excuse, I should have been ready for it. The car is just so weak, I was trying to gain speed on the hill too quickly.

I recommend more rubber to the road ,an aggresive wheel and tire setup ,225 50 16 goodyears on a set of r129 rims ,It will increase road feel ,youve basically increase the bumps the car hits with wider tires but handeling is fantastic and you still keep the era correct rims.

Hmmm... w123 wheels are wider, they have same offset, and look outwardly the same...

However they weigh 8 lbs more each wheel...

225/50R16 is WAYYYYY too big for a 190D. I had 205/60R15 on my 84 and they rubber on the fender lip. 225 16 inchers would rub all over the place. Way too big. My 195/55R15 tires are perfect. More rubber than stock, but not wide enough to rub the fender lip during full suspension compression. The same diameter as stock so the speedo is correct.

The 190e 2.3 16v I drive wears this set ,not sure a 190d would rub .If you could find a set of 99clks w/ 205 55 16s this is a proven bolt up upgrade . Ive had a set of clks on a 190d in the past and it was an improvement to the 15s.To the evo1 set this is going gonzo to the limit on grip ,if it fits.A set of new wet condition tires maybe all thats needed, a cheaper quicker fix in this case.

If any of you are familiar with Charlotte, NC, it was on the eastbound Independence Blvd. on ramp to north bound Eastway...

For those NOT familiar with that stretch, it's an S curve outer ramp of a cloverleaf overpass onramp. Pretty steep rise, curves to the right, then sharply to the left, then sharply back to the right, all while climbing a fairly steep rise to the road....
Are you sure you didn't mean southbound Eastway (towards Monroe Rd)? I have scared myself and many others going up that ramp trying to keep up enough speed to merge left into turn lanes for Monroe Rd!! Grew up about 1/4 mile from that interchange .....

Thinking back, I was driving a full size 1965 Pontiac most of the time and I could slide my friends across the seats and into the windows as that barge listed in the curves
