Another Mercedes followed me home.

I did it again, been looking at a 240D on CL for a few weeks, and finally took the bait.

At least I didn`t let this one slip through my fingers.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/371169-%24750-83-300d-no-1st-gear.html

Was owned by an old lady, who ran it out of oil.
It is an 80 240D, white, no Sun Roof, tan interior, automatic, shows 183K miles.

Interior is in really good shape. Great head Liner, seems to be a crack free Dash.
Only bad thing is a "V" shape tear in the rear seat about 1" long. might be able to glue it down?
Still has the old Becker Analog Radio.

Guy swapped on Bundt Wheels with ehhh sort of ok tires.
1/2 Shafts look ok except for the cracks in the rubber boots, but not through or open. Probably the original Homokenetics.

The trunk area looks pretty clean, and the Gasket is in great shape.
Both front door bottom edges where the gasket fits into the groove are rusty. really the only runs I found.
All 4 door gaskets are in bad need or replacement.

The Engine compartment is in need a good cleaning. Great, now I can use my new (to me) Hotsy 555SS hot water pressure washer I picked up off CL also a few months ago.

OH price, I guess you are all chomping at the bit for that, $750.

That is what I paid for the Hotsy, something about $750,

I did have to drive about 240 miles to pick her up in Santa Rosa, Ca. which is north of San Francisco, and Iam in Nevada.
So had to climb over that rock pile known as the Sierra Nevada Mt range, and go over a couple elevations of 7400 and 8K ft.then down to sea level.

Got out of here around 8:30am and got to the guys place about 3:10pm.
And finally back to our place at 1:40am this morning. Was a full day.

Now I can line this one up with the 78 240 I picked up 2+ yrs ago that was also ran out of oil by a young girl, but got it for $300.

What`s up with women not checking their oil? I have seen a bunch on CL like this lately.

Thumbs up New Toy !

No fair ~ you tease us then no pictures.....

Unless I'm in any sort of hurry , I always prefer to drive SWMBO's '81 240D slushbox .

yes , it's slow but it's also comfy and a fine car to drive , anywhere , anytime .

I'd choose it over my other two OM617's if I had to keep only one .

Women expect men to check their oil with the proper dip stick...

Sounds like you latched onto something.

Send pics when you can.

Found another 240D to drag home, a 240D manual trans.
Says the fuel distribution block is leaking. Maybe the IP or a fuel line? We`ll see.
OH Boy, another project. at least this one maybe sort of kind of will run.
For $500, can`t go too wrong.
Tomorrow I dig the car trailer out of the snow bank, check it over, and Friday
Morning heading over to get it.
On the way down Iam picking up a cord of Oak Firewood, then the 240.
If another guy answers me, Iam picking up 2 sets of new snow cables for the 86 F-250.
Guy wants $40 ea, and new they are over $100. The car and chains are in the same town, be cool to pick up both.

About 2 1/2 hrs to the wood, and another 45 min to the car.

Good:
Car ran good just did a valve adjustment and new battery has manual glow plug switch installed.
Electric sunroof work great (only electric accessorie)
Manual windows, manual locks, manual transmission all in good condition. Body panels are OK, all glass is good.

Bad:
Fuel distribution block is leaking and therefore has air in the lines and is really hard to start. Interior is getting brittle. Shift knob needs to be replaced.

Suspension is tired, and an alignment/tires are needed.

The body shell looks good and that paint might buff out nicely. People buy shiny.

I'll wager you have a decent IP sitting around, right? I'd change it out and go for it!

Nice score

This thing has been listed for 16 days so far. I was sitting on the fence thinking about it.
I did call 2 wks ago and didn`t get a return call.
So yesterday called again, left msg and then decided to e-mail.
He immediately got back to me, and we finalized it in about 1/2 hr and 6 e-mails.

Iam surprised it lasted this long.

Figure new Years day would be ok to get it, most are sleeping off the night before, and the rest are in jail. LOL

Did you see the $200 one? That one has been rode hard and put up wet.
Mercedes 240d
