Sun Roof Switch Question

Question about my sunroof switch on the dash of my 78 300D, when depressing the upper portion of the switch it moves the sunroof aft, and when pushing the lower part of the switch if moves the sunroof forward.

This seems backwards, can anyone check their car too see if this is how the factory intended it? It just seems backwards from any other vehicle..

If it is backward, I guess I could just reverse the polarity on the switch or motor right?

My 84SD is correct. The 85SD which was dealer serviced until I bought it is backwards. I haven't tested the switches to know whether the difference is the switch or the wiring. The switches look the same without pulling, comparing part numbers or connections.

I believe that I am the only person that has ever been into the sunroof since it left Germany some 40 years ago. I might try and reverse the polarity on the motor ans get the motor to work in the manner that I want.

I think the plug on the harness side can be opened and the 2 wires swapped.

I think the top to open, and bottom to close is correct. I seem to remember that all the ones I have used were that way.

The switch icon is 'open sunroof' to me. The other end of the rocker is blank or 'not open sunroof.' I don't know if the switch just reverses motor polarity. I'd feel safer switching wires at the switch or turn the switch upside-down.

Most switches cannot be installed backwards on these cars. There is usually a tab or something similar that forces correct orientation. I'd check but have plenty to repair and no reason to take that part of the dash apart (currently).
