New (to me) 1991 300D

Saturday I'll be picking up a '91 300d. 115k miles (documented). 2 owners. First owner was a father-in-law who sold it to his son-in-law. He has all service records since Stuttgart. I'd really wanted to get into a w123 or w116 but everything I looked at was more of a "rolling restoration" than a "daily driver."

The only things wrong I can find are a ding on the trunk lid and the ac needs a recharge. It still has the original r12 setup. It cools ok if the ambient temp is below 80*F or so. With cooler weather setting in, I think I can hold off on a repair until spring. I'd like to stick with r12 unless it gets to expensive to maintain.

I'll post pics once the adoption papers are signed.

It's good to be back...

That car should have the Denso compressor, and the manifold seal tends to leak. Be sure to leak check the system before recharging.

Can the seals in that compressor be replaced? I replaced a valve and seals in a Sanden compressor this summer... not too bad of a job, really.

If the front shaft seal is leaking, it is not worth the labor to replace it. Better to replace the entire compressor. The manifold seal is fairly easy to replace with the compressor in place. They normally leak there. Doing a pressure leak test before will show where the leak is. My bet is the manifold seal first, and second the shaft seal (or both).
